Well Yvonne
That should make food for thought for Mourinho and many others. It does seem grossly unfair. Is there a Spanish equivalent of NI ?? If you are paying tax in Spain and NI is deducted automatically, then surely it is being deducted from you and entitles you to healthcare ? Or when you say you pay taxes in Spain do you mean taxes other than income tax ??
Time those Euro MPs actually earned their money and tried to sort out the tangle, especially considering the number of Brits in Spain

Can some one answer this question for me then.
My spanish friends, women friends all work for the council for 2 weeks every 6 months, it can be in the fields, cleaning the street or even doing construction work.
I dont understand fully how it is explained to me, but my understanding is that if they work for these 2 weeks every 6 months they keep there unemployment benefit. My best friend showed me a leaflet once that explained it and set out the guide lines, and I am almost sure it stated something in excess of 500 euros a month ?????
any one shead any light on this ?????

Non of these women are actively looking for work and some also do other work cash in hand work. I have explained that this would stop in the UK and you couldnt claim benefit (these women are married with school age children)
From what I understand this goes on indefinitely....Is this so ?

It would seem reading the last few posts of our fellow forum members that there is gross injustice re healthcare etc in the way that foreigners are treated in Spain and Spanish residents are treated for example the United Kingdom. These are serious points that shoud be addressed by the EEC asap. Especially considering the large amount of subsidies given to Spain over several years!! There should be fairness for all...

Sounds like a convenient fiddle. They work two weeks and this then qualifies them for unemployment benefit for the next six months. I know there used to be something similar in France, which a lot of artists used to their benefit. Most actors and street performers would have an act of some kind, stilt walking, fire eating, performance art etc. We had a woman who came over to London and created an installation in Canary Wharf by placing 300 cabbages around the fountains!! In between she called herself the 'foot doctor' and went around persuading the suits to roll up their trousers and have their feet washed. If they could get a certain number of bookings a year, I believe it was somewhere in the region of 24 days, then they could carry on receiving benefits for about two years.

I was under the impression that one could buy into a medical centre like Centro Medico in Chiclana. You pay a certain amount a month, and are then entitled to whatever treatment is needed? This is a private arrangement I guess but it might be of help to people in the 'not quite retired' area.
Or am I misinformed on this?
Be interested to learn if anyone has bought into such a scheme.

Hi SusieQ
Following a friends advice I went to check out the Centro Medical Centre in Chiclana. Unfortunately the desk staff on duty at that time were unable to understand me so I am afraid I did not venture further.... However I think you do have to pay something on top of the yearly fee for certain treatments??

Centro Medico in Chiclana. Its around 22 euros every 2 months and that is for a family, it does not cost you to see the doctor who is on duty 24 hours, but any specialists or xrays you pay for but you do get a discount, there is also a dentist there who is very good. The english speaking lady Gloria is normally there during the mornings
