Am I missing something here? I thought this thread was about the toll on the A22 yet the last four posts are taking us on a tour of Scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for clarity, the A22 tolls have not been abolished, despite an online article on April 1st suggesting that they have.

That must be nice overlooking the river, even in the rain. Are you in Ayamonte rather than Costa Esuri?
Mary, on the balcony, no rain!

There has been no removal or reduction in the A22 tolls. Lots of pre-election talk, rumours, wishful thinking and a very plausible April Fool's Day report.

Thanks I thought as much.I actually don t mind paying the toll fee its the transponder fee from the car hire companies that annoys me.If only they had a credit /debit card system so could just pay the tolls .One day perhaps .Especially these days you can flash a mobile phone app to a shop/bar etc and pay your bill.A simpler system should be offered to non Portugese .

EasyToll for foreigners is exactly what you describe. Just flash your CC (or rather stick it in a slot once) and you can drive unlimited for 30 days.
The rentco charge of 5€ for Portuguese cars doesn't seem much as they have to pay for the transponder and have the extra administrative cost of paying the tolls for you. I suppose they could bundle it in so you don't have a choice but at least they give you the option. To be fair I think they have done a good job since the tolls first started.
