I'm a bit hazy as to when the last time Christian terrorists blew up hundreds of people.

Equally I'm a bit hazy on just where in the developed world we are still stoning people or killing them for apostasy.

The people who blew up the twin towers came from one of the richest countries in the world and most of them were from nice middle class backgrounds.

The major difference between Christianity and Islam is very simple, Islam is still in the 6th century whereas Christianity (well at least the majority of Christians) has moved into the 21st century.

Oh and BTW I'm an atheist and I dislike Christianity as much as I dislike Islam
but to equate the two is just plainly ridiculous and far too simplistic IMO

To return to the topic, what some commentators are saying about being able to contemplate doing it if it was personal as opposed to generic, well it seems to me that is just a variation on the NIMBY attitude a lot of people have nowadays.
Excellent post!

There seems to be no point of negotiation with islam when the stated aim of the fundamentalists state their aims as introducing sharia law worldwide and the annihilation of Israel. I doubt if muslim terrorists have only killed 4000 They have killed more than that of their own in attacks against sunnis and shitites!

There is nothing wrong with secular Muslims, just as there is nothing wrong with secular Christians, Jews, whatever.

It is fundamentalism of any stripe that is the problem. Intolerant fundamentalism.

No, still not got it. Do these people believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God or not?

Yes they do believe in Jesus.

The best definition I have is:-

A secular christian is a christian that doesn't adhear to all of the fundamentals of christianity. They don't follow all of the traditions of the religion.

Oh, OK. It's not important. I thought secular as in secular state or secular society meant separate from religion or non-religious.

Sorry, I thought you were kidding. It's where religion becomes a sort of social glue, rather than a serious belief. As you say, it's almost contradictory, effectively a non religious person who still adheres to the religion, more from habit than real belief.

Much more healthy for the rest of society, as secular people are less likely to want to stone you to death just because you don't believe in their imaginary friend.

That probably applies to 90% of the people who will, in the impending UK census, declare their religion as C of E.

I have read that there are more "practicing" moslems in the UK than "practicing " C of E.

Phew!!
Well, all that made great entertainment. I thought I'd check into my new forum site to get some cheerful idea of life and joy in sunny Spain. It's really cheered me up.
I almost slit my wrists after eight pages.
Think I'll come back another night and see if anyone's got their happy heads on.
Do carry on with the healthy debate, but include me out.
