It's stand alone - doesn't use homeplugs. It picks up the normal WiFi connection and extends it. The nice feature is that it has 4 ethernet ports on it. I have it sitting under the TV connected to the Smart TV, Apple TV, Humax and BluRay player. Works fine. It doesn't interfere with the other network coming off the homeplug system.

As you say, your solution gets round the problem of UK TV services being blocked in Spain but not all routers support DD-WRT.

Strangely, using the Humax, ITV Player is not blocked but BBC is.

All this tech stuff might seem out of place on a Spain forum but the day is probably coming when UK satellite TV may not be available any more and these Internet options will become much more common.
no my problem is not that the router will not carry wi-fi far but that lot of
metal and tenerfie concrete (made of volcanic rock) stopping the signal getting far

i can tell you that day (ish ) 1/1/13 as where now we need 3m dishs to get bbc/itv direct when the exisiting ASTRA 1N is replaced we will not get ANY british national channels

No it's not a problem at all.

We have a three phase supply and it even works across all the phases.

You might even find it works if you plug it in to your neighbours house!

.
I had a look at this, and I thought it looked quite good, so as it's only €35.46 on Amazon.es (£28 at the current rate) I ordered one. I always check both Amazons, as I've had some amazing deals from ES. I recently bought an APC UPS for €65 that was £99 on the UK site. !

Be aware that the Netgear unit is more difficult to set up - it certainly doesn't work straight out of the box.
