What a load of cobblers.
I doubt there's many in the UK can remember what real poverty is.
It's a very much misused expression these days.
Even in the poorest sink estates kids are running around in the latest designer clothes with the latest phone technology in their hands.
We've had cuts, but certainly no worse than anywhere else and they were mainly down to the mess that Labour left behind, certainly not Cameron's fault.
The economy is moving on better than anywhere in Europe, last report out stated that wages were starting to keep up with inflation again and we have the most generous benefit system in Europe, maybe even the world, so if our kids are supposed to be struggling I hate to think how they get by elsewhere.
A purely politically motivated article I would say.

There are areas of the UK where there is real poverty, where children go to school hungry and go home to a life of deprivation.
No sat TV , no designer clothes etc.
Some one has been watching too many TV documentaries.

What has the UK and its perceived poverty to do with the Spanish Economy
#260
I think I related this once before
When I lived in "posh" Leamington Spa I was out of work for a few months between when I sold the business and moved to Spain. Someone suggested I sign on. Well, I thought ... why not. I was entitled after an hour long interview to around £6 a week, and of course I had to drive 12 miles to the dole office to sign on regularly. I told the women interviewing me that it was bloody ridiculous because it was the first time ever that I had tried to claim. She agreed and told me she was jacking her job in because of it.
The point of all this is though that you would expect that people who were on the dole and therefore "poor" would be struggling. However in my few visits there (I told them to stuff it in the end) it became quite clear that most of them were dressed better than I was, had top of the range phones, and quite a few drove high end BMW's and the like, but took to parking them a quarter of a mile away from the dole office and walking there.
So ...... if you're on the dole in the UK it doesn't necessarily mean that you will be poor because apart from making your claims, a lot of the time you have a part time job going on in the background too

It just goes to show how ignorant of real life in the UK some expats are.

I used to have to pass the JC nearly every day, stuck in a queue at the traffic lights outside, you could see the dolly pull up in the hi-end motor, guy get out and cross over the road to the JC. Dolly went round the corner to park up on double yellows or meter bay (without paying) to wait for the guy to come out and phone to say he was ready for picking up.
Its a game. The JC do know about it but if the paperwork is correct they can't do anything about it. But I understand they don't leave you on the same time booking on, changing the time every couple of months, so claimants don't "get in a rut". A local building site used to have people leaving at all sorts of times to "go to the doctor".

Could there have been an outside chance that the bloke was going in to notify and discuss with the Centre, jobs he has available in his highly successful business ?
