Spain torturing people again.

There was another case where they shot a mentally retarded man that had a cap gun in a holster on his cowboy suit.
The copper said he felt his life was threatened so fired first.

Indeed, also a guy with a chairleg that was mistaken for a shotgun!
I think the point that has been made here is that the police in all countries have a difficult job to do under difficult circumstance's,and sometimes there are mistakes made, and less frequently, outright abuses.
However until one of us has done their job I dont really think we can pass judgement (unless on outright abuse),maybe there are serving or ex police service on the forum who have a view

Let us not forget that if someone had been a terrorist and the decision to shoot the terrorist had been taken then they would need to make sure the person was dead (as awful as it sounds), all that would be needed is for the person to push a trigger and possibly blow his backpack up... or worse, unfortunately making sure someone has been killed can be very gruesome and I for one do not envy the work of the police force in any way.
Police in this situation are under incredible pressure. I have friends in the service in the UK who have been in pressure situations that I am glad that I have never been put in, they are remarkable, sensitive people. These people are protecting you and me, sadly there are mistakes made just as there are in every situation in life. It's very easy for people 'like you or me' to say or think something seems ridiculous, but then... we are not in the situation that they are in... and hopefully never will be.

First I don`t support terrorism.
But the Spanish authorities have been denounced by the families of Igor Portu who was arrested on Sunday for alleged acts terrorism and membership to the Basque ETA group.
Fifteen hours after his detention he was taken to Donostia Hospital and treated for a broken rib, punchered lung, severe brushing to the face and lasherations to both legs and wrists.
Spanish officials blamed the arrest to have been a difficult and violence was used against there officers, these injuries are said to be the result of the arrest .
Funny has he did resist arrest at the time of capture according to official witnesses.
Igor has yet to stand trial and he is only suspected of being involved in terrorism, no charges have yet to be declared and no evidence has yet to be forwarded to the court.
I would say that of course terrorists have no rights in the world and deserve all they get, but you first have to prove who is a terrorist.
So far the Spanish have yet to prove this person is one.
The Spanish have to follow the standing they take when asking the CIA why they are using there airports illegally and criticising the US for its human rights abuses, when for decades every Basque person has feared being taken to a Guardia Civil Police Station and beaten up in the hope they would inform on ETA members.
Spain needs to realise that if the situation is ever to become peaceful they need to stop abusing Basque people. Its time both side sat down and talk as they Irish and the British did, the British realised in the 80`s that abusing irish people didn`t resolve there determination, it encouraged violence.

In your girlfriend's land, among some things, you cannot be political, nor intellectual, nor artist...if you are of a thought different of ETA and their environment. They don't have any repair in killing until to their own autonomous police, the Ertzainxa, doesn't miss me that these police bodies live in a constant pressure
Because this mob that has been arrested by the police pursues you, it insults you...in definitive, they makes you the impossible life. And at the end, like has happened with a lot of people, do you finish with a shot in the nape or with a bomb under your car...do you understand the message, or do you continue in anal phase?
This is another that you said...that the republicans burned the King's photo. The true Spanish republicans have never burned the King's photo. Those that burned the King's photo were people of the catalan independence, like the personage mentioned at the beginning of this message. Yes, and this people of the extreme left (extrema izquierda), people that meets with the environment of ETA

But were in the section relating to Spain, but please if any of your friends want to post stuff about Spanish police feel free.
I`m not here trying to state the UK Police are innocent, there of course goin to be bad apples in every pie.
My main concern is that of the EU investigating Spain`s human rights record.
There not lookin at the UK.
And my other main concern is for people who may be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get the wrong type of treatment.
At the moment Spain is becoming more of a concern.

I`d agree Police shouldn`t mistreat people in any country and ofcourse it does happen to an extent.
As for the tube shooting, the people involved weren`t regular Police officers.
Think Gibraltar.
And Special Recon unit of the 22nd Regiment.

There job was to stop a threat at all costs, as did the Iranian Embassy Seige and Gibraltor.
One guy was recovered in London with more then 50 rounds to the head and body.
Then he was deemed not a threat.
Unfortunatly that kid was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But there is a difference, a vast difference between that case and somebody being tortured in Police custody for questioning.

The Policia and mainly the Guardia Civil, so much that you like to insult to these two police bodies. They have disarticulated many commands of ETA. It is ETA and their environment of ETA who tortures, nor the police nor the Spanish State. Vascongadas is one of the Spanish counties (with Catalonia) with more competences, until they have its own autonomous police
And a minority of radical Basques is not all the Basques, so you don't speak of mouth of all the Basques. You asks to Basques pursued in their own land who is the aggressor, before saying so many horseplays

Well lee8, I don't think I am... and I'll tell you why, you see when I was brought up I was taught not to fling verbal abuse at people and to respect the police, I can't be sure this is what happened but it looks very like it was a verbal outburst from the lout that started it to me... although there was no sound so I can't be sure, but I have to be 99.9% sure this was the case. I doubt anyone would not find it hard to hold back when some youngster started flinging abuse at them in a situation where they should be showing respect, apart from the copper loosing it for a second the whole thing was handled as would be expected.
Sorry, no worries here.
BTW, I think the edit is for making small changes in the post, not changing the contents.

Try this documental made by a couple who faced the Police in Spain.
Witness says she was sexually assulted, electricuted etc etc.
She has no association to ETA, they made another bad mistake.
When you get to 4.06 you`ll hear the UN investigator taking about the investigations made in Spain.
