The prospects of affected UK councils salvaging their savings seem fairly remote at present.
Anyone receiving their next council tax bill from one of these could be in for a real nasty shock.....

As things stand there seems to be very little chance of Iceland meeting its obligations.
However if they gave us back the cod fishing rights and maybe a hundred or so trawlers it could make a useful down-payment.
Just think fresh cod and chips again.......yummy,yummy.

Problem is the rest of the EU would all want their grubby fingers in the pie.

Re the Spanish banks -I think it's only deposit and current accounts that are guaranteed. If you have been saving money in a bank's investment fund (Plan de jubilacion) for retirement, or in a savings fund for your childrens' future, then according to our bank that isn't covered by the guarantee.

It`s only deposit accounts that are going to be covered by a guarantee. The big banks though like Banco Santander etc guarantee your investment anyway regardless of the amount that you have on deposit for the full 100% but its only for a maximum of one year!!! After this you will be covered by the government for a max of 100.000 euros.

If a Spanish bank went bust how long do you think it would take to get your money from the Government
