I tried to apply on line using my UK address, but when i went through the process it only allowed me to take out a subscription if I went for one of the SKY contract offers, which meant I had to have a phone line connected for 12 months,
So I reverted to phoning SKY using Voip stunt Phone to Phone, set it all up by phone, and told them I didnt have to have a phone line and that I them I didnt want a landline, use only mobiles and use the Voip system on my Mobile laptop for international etc, They had no problem with this.
They then informed me I needed a manual activation of the card, which would cost me £25 extra, set the account up on my UK bank and the card arrived three days later at my UK address, was forwarded over to me in SPain and I duly activated using Voip,

So to answer ur question, can you process SKY online in Spain, NO it would appear not!,,, as you will need a UK landline!!!.

If my sky plus box in Spain is still connected to the skycard via the illegal broadcaster and I then phone Sky from the UK saying that I had purchased this box on ebay for example and wanted a contract using this box. Would I have a problem?

Providing you can register the contract to a UK address that currently has not got a Sky contract, and they can send the card to it, you have a UK bank account that they can DD, the SKY box does not have a current contract registered to it, and when you activate you do so through either a UK mobile or Caller ID off phone, and take reasonable care in conversation with them you should be ok, Key is not to admit you are outside of UK reception zone. I would think your chances are good based upon my experience.

Solarwhizz I am receiving skyplus here in Spain through a skyplus box and an "illegal" card. If I phone up sky and say I want a contract to my UK address using this skyplus box - will they check the box number and say, "sorry no can do as it is already connected elsewhere"? Other than that I do have a UK address and a UK bank account.

it should not be a problem....as you can (at the moment) actually have a few cards paired to one box!...although you cannot have one cards paired to many boxes.

and would have thought that if you are using an "blue yellow house" card then it may be best to cancel the DD for this card as otherwsie you may be paying for a card that you dont have.

I was going to cancel the DD anyway but he most likely won´t realise until the next payment is due and I am going back to the UK in 10 days and will try to sort out the Sky contract then.

Maybe a silly question, but why have a few cards paired to one box?

shhhh. It helps when you can activate a few in one box and pass them onto people who want to use them in sky card reading non sky receivers.....

The only thing I miss about the Digibox is the EPG. I love my third party box. Very family friendly. It's a combo, TDT and satellite all in one box which reads the Sky card and the Al Jazeera Sports card which lets us watch Champion's League, La Liga, Italian premiere, etc.

unfotunatley that is a big issue with "generic" receivers
although some "geeks" have managed to a degree write software for some generics that take the data and are able to reproduce some of the EPG data from many satellite operators.....
unfortunatly the size of the software compromised the memoy space in the boxes and reduces the number of channels a box can store.....but then who wants to store 5000 arabic text channels in their digibox anyway...

I know this is probably a stupid and very basic question.... but I actually have a perfectly legal UK address (have been staying in it since the beginning of June) which has a cable landline phone (the bill has my husband's name on it)...if I had a SKY installation at this address,(using a UK Bank account) could I then take the box and card with me to Spain and use it ?

And would it or would it not be legal?

Hi

I would cancel your current subscription first as this may take some time.
I had the same problem as I had a Doner card from a supplier, but did not know the name and address of the Doner. Although the DD was taken from my Egg card this proved to be a lengthy process to cancel as Egg would not just stop payment. Also sky does not have a direct telephone line for cancellation it must be done in writing this can further delay the process. In the End I told Egg that I tried on numerous occasions to contact Sky, but to no avail. They eventually cancel the DD and rebated some of the previous months.

regards,

In theory yes.
But the terms and conditions of a discounted Sky installation in the UK require all discounted receivers to be connected to a UK phone line for the 1st 12 months of your sky contract - lifetime for a multiroom contract - tries to stop you running off with their box that they still own!
However, Sky do not really tend to police the nbasic installation as much as they do with the multiroom installation. Although this may well change (you never know)

Setting up a sky account before you move is the best way

You would be breaking the terms and conditions of your sky contract - a civil not common law issue.
Whether or not you can be done for fraud, by claiming you card is at a UK address and it is not is another matter....

Also sky does not have a direct telephone line for cancellation it must be done in writing this can further delay the process.
You can cancel Sky over the phone with no problems - just call Sky Customer Services...!
Sometimes if you just cancell the DD at the bank and not via Sky then your address and bank details can be blacklisted as being a nonpayer.
It was setanta that required you to write in to cancel...and they mysteriously "lost" a lot of cancellation letters!

Hi

I am only stating what I had to do. I had no details on the cards original owners I just paid a broker who is no longer around, that Is why I could not cancel over the phone as they had no record of the transaction or that is what they said.

Regards,
