Don't see many shell suits these days. Still plenty of elderly Spanish tottering around in those flowery smock type dresses that you see in the markets. If you wander round Fuengirola you may see some 40 and even fifty something Brits wandering around with their stomachs hanging out of their jeans. Some even have a navel stud, not a pretty sight.
Seriously Rotor, I think you see what you want to see…

It would be nice if the British could use alcohol with a bit more restraint.
It is embarrassing when you see what some of us get up to. I sometimes practise saying 'No, no, I am Cherman, bin ich kein Englander.

So true, but they sure as hell are what creates the first impression. Then as soon as you open your mouth, you are placed in a category.
Sadly too many people base their assessment on you by the first or the second, and don't bother to see if there is something worthwhile in there.

I didn’t realise there was a dress code for Spain.

But I'm afraid, for you smart dresser fans, I tended to be there in a Polo shirt and casual trousers, rather than a suit.
I found it highly amusing how visitors to the office perceived me because of that ... they judged totally on how I was dressed and was mistaken for a warehouseman and a driver on numerous occasions and shock and embarrassment took over when it was explained to them.
But in general I always found the dress code on the continent to be more relaxed. When we went on business trips we always went in suits, but our customers and agents more often than not were in open neck shirts and casual trousers. They always thought the British way of dressing was stuffy!!
I believe you should dress in a way you are comfortable and let people judge you by your actions and manner .... Judging people by the way they dress is just plain wrong!

So true here in Italy where jeans are accepted everywhere - school teachers and students wear them ... bank clerks wear them - town hall officials wear them .... not limited just to jeans either.

Even get it sent down from France
