Satellite Internet

Satellite Internet
Wonder if any of you sat guys have any experience or knowledge of setting up a satellite internet system.
Just been looking at one on a website called Astra 2Connect,.....a bit confusing as it seems to use Astra 1.
However you can purchase the kit to fit yourself or with expert help and pay a monthly fee £17 something and up, depending on requirements, but there is also a one-off conection fee which I imagine could be a bit pricey.
Wondering if this system would be ok in Spain, how well it performs and if theres any feedback from users?

Re: Satellite Internet
Also such a system might be portable, as I live between a few locations, one of which is out of reach of terrestial systems.
Also possibly have the advantage of only one subscription covering all locations?

Re: Satellite Internet
I think some people here have got themselves confused. "Satellite internet" usually means getting the internet using a satellite feed, rather than a phone line / ADSL feed. A few people might think it refers to receiving satellite TV from someone feeding it to you over the internet. That's the one which is (usually) illegal.
Not worth getting upset over, though.

Re: Satellite Internet
there is nothing illegal in using a satellite for your internet connection...and astraconnect is operated by the same compnay the operates and owns the satellites - they have about 10 or more of them - and so i think thier service is legal!
skydsl and astr2connect (and i think tooway???) are a few of the many companies that operate these types of system.
they offer two methods of use:
one way - where your upload is done via traditional phone or 3g phone, and the download is by satellite
two way - where both upload and download are via the satellite.
once connected to the internet - either adsl or satellite - both will operate exactly the same and allow you to do exactly the same...
this has nothing to do with the OPs request.
if used in spain both ADSL and satellite internet will block the use of UK TV players, unless you use some form of IP address blocker.
it is not illegal to use these player services outside the UK - it is just that the copyright agreements between the programme makers / rights holders do not allow them to be viewed outside the uk and therefor the players are coded to look for IP addresses outside the UK - just as sky dont post cards to addresses outside the UK and ROI) ,.
but it is a grey area as to if these IP address blockers / proxy servers / vpns etc that provide acces to a UK server to trick the players into thinking you are connecting from within the uK and ROI are illegal. and many websites that "stream" pay tv have been targeted by the authorities and closed down.
UK TV use Astra 2 a,b,c and eurobird 1 satellites located at 28.2 to 28.5 degrees east of south. there are one or two internet cos using eurobird 1.
Astra 1 is located at 19 desgrees east of south - and mainly carries european TV channels - and a whole host of internet providers.
many people perfer to use an 80cm dish at least for astra, as the 60cm dish can lose signals during heavy rain.
the other thing is to keep an eye out for those monthly cap limits....or "fair use" policies...you can get penalised heavily for going over them.

Re: Satellite Internet
WTF are you on about, I said it is illegal to rebroadcast UK programs unless you have a licence and as BBC and ITV don`t have a worldwide licence they restrict Iplayer to UK ISP`s

Re: Satellite Internet
you can use astra2connect skydsl etc just as you would telefonica, orange, europe etc to conenct to the internet - nothing more - and is ideal for those people who live in the campo and are unable to get a landline or adsl connection.
