More charges again, if you buy in the duty free shop air side and its put in a bag, you will be charged £28 for the extra cabin bag. This was on Radio Five Live last Thursday night

I would drive a hundred miles to another airport rather than give my custom to a company that treats people so badly.

Re: Ryanair

At last, a full house of people who realise how badly Ryanair treat the punters. Just about at the bottom of my list too. God knows how he gets away with charging passengers for everything but not paying his airport charges.

Re: Ryanair

funny i have traveleld with ryan air to lots of places and, so long as you treat them as a bus service they offer fab value for money. Having just got back from austria with them they didnt care how many carry on bags you had. One tip get an online checkine flight and its ever so easy no queuing and half hour going thru to departure and no problems!
:D:D

I notice Monarch are starting to check-weigh hand luggage now aswell

crispy Feb 8th 2009 5:42 am

Re: Ryanair

I have no gripes about Ryanair, their website quite clearly states one piece of hand luggage, now if people don't, can't or won't understand what that means then they should not be travelling on their own but with a grown-up who can understand the rules.

I have seen people go through security with one bag, go into duty free buy goodness knows what and then take a 2nd bag from the original one and fill it up. It's bad enough trying to find overhead room for one piece of luggage let alone two, if everyone had 2 pieces of hand luggage then there would be a free for all trying to get it into the overhead boxes.

One piece of hand luggage means just that!

Whenever I have travelled with Easyjet they have always been very strict regarding the size of the back.

Hear hear Crispy!

Sick of people delaying flights through their selfisness, and making people who stick to the rules suffer when their bags have to go in the hold as there is no room left in the cabin.

Its not just duty frees they collect, they seem to bring several/oversized bags through security in the first place.

Maybe the new charges/penalties - clearly outlined in 'News' on Ryanair's site will focus their minds a little.

I think unfortunatley you are being a bit optimistic if you think people will take a blind bit of notice .In all security areas in all airports there are hundreds of signs to remove coats and belts etc in the queue and no sharps and liquids in bags but do they take any heed,I am afraid not .

Hondon, if you read the item mentioned, I think you will find they have no choice!

Re: Ryanair

lets be honest, there are always those who take advantage of any situation. Ryanair tell you the rules and, if you are unfortunate to be on a really popular flight route where weight is limited you should be prepared to pay for the extra baggage. If you chose the less popular routes or go on a
awkward timed flight then its not a problem. The trouble is people expect a 5 star service at a 2 star price-- if you want that then you have to pay!!!:p

Barbara Red lips Feb 8th 2009 9:23 am

I reckon you get roughly what you pay for...obey the conditions, take the flight and pay them the minimum. No inflight "meals"...take your own and stay thirsty

Don't get me started on loo users;) another pet hate. I can't believe the amount of people that have to go to the loo as soon as the seatbelt light goes off:confused: I mean where does that come from. You will always find me in the loo just before I board a flight and straight into one when I get off. :D

Re: Ryanair

Ryanair offer an excellent service for the cost providing you play by their rules .... after all, it is their airline and only right that they should make the rules and the decide the charges. If you don't like it, fly with another airline.

The same applies to security at the airports, it is a pain and as soon as you have done it once, you know the rules. So why try and wear a coat, leave a mobile and change in your pocket and argue about a bottle of water that you have only just bought and try and get through.

Stop moaning, enjoy the cheap !!! flights with Ryanair and be thankful that somebody is worrying about aircraft safety.

bil Feb 9th 2009 5:53 am

Re: Ryanair

I think this will cause people to buy less in the duty free side.

The retailers will scream about that IMO

Crispy and a couple of others have it bang to rights. Ryan does what it says on the tin. If you want a company that doesn't worry about a second bag, and will give you a rub and tug as part of the service, then expect to pay a whole lot more. I have one, maybe two trips left where I need to take hold luggage, but after that it's just hand luggage for me. Mind you, my luggage has that expanding trick, so that I can fit a bit more in, and I do tend to fill my jacket pockets too!

They must be bringing in the rule that you can only consume food and drink bought on the plane soon. They are missing a trick there.

SSHHHhhhh ! Keep that one under your hat sunshine !!!
(Not sure if they can do that really - but Ryanair re-wrote the rule book)

I like Ryanair ONLY when the plane is NOT full - so I can get my hand luggage in, easily find a seat (or three) and not sit next to farting, belching, snoring, smelly holiday maker with a ruddy suntan !!!

...No sickbags with RyanAir, No seat pockets either, 3 Euros for a 100ml of Water - and I dare not use their toilet in case there is a surcharge or priority booking system for that too !!!

Although Grapeater says that he is 'not sure they can do this' it is common practice in cinemas in UK to put up signs that only food and drink bought on the premises can be consumed there (presumably as the extortionate prices for refreshments contribute greatly to their revenue, as is definitely the case with Ryanair), and that bags are subject to search (and presumably illegal food and drink will be confiscated by the ice-cream ladies lol)!

Or furtively eating a cheese sandwich underneath a blanket, whilst the cabin lights are dimmed for take off and landing?

But it's only a two and a half hour flight. Surely *anyone* can go that amount of time without having to stuff food down their necks?

Well ... if you are taking an early morning flight, say 06.30 (often Security doesn't open until just before 6.00) .. you might prefer to eat your breakfast on the plane ... especially if you have kids as it keeps them occupied for a while. I don't believe hot drinks should be brought on board as they are potentially dangerous in an emergency during take-off...

Personally refuse to buy anything on board and only carry a 500ml bottle of water bought in the Departure Lounge after Security in case of thirst during the flight (or need to take medication .. a woman next to me on one flight had a headache and asked a crew member for a cup of water so she could take a painkiller only to be told she had to 'buy' a bottle of water!)

And in the cinema you aren't even allowed to bring in your own sweets (I don't eat in cinemas either but would much prefer to be sat next to someone eating jelly babies they had brought in than crunching through a tray of natchos or a bucket of popcorn!)

 I obviously hadn't stated strongly enough that I believe that with the exception of hot drinks (on planes) for safety reasons, and alcohol for licensing regulations (cabin crew also need to have the discretion to refuse to serve anyone who is obviously drunk, which wouldn't be the case if they were sipping from their own bottle of wine) I totally agree with people being allowed to bring their own refreshments onto the plane (or into the cinema for that matter) ...
I would hate to see a situation where food and drink brought from outside was severely restricted on any flight for whatever reason!
