There are duty free shops in Spanish airports too ...
And lots of people buy cigarettes there to bring back/take with them to England ... not to mention alcohol, perfume, food gifts etc ... and it all usually gets put in a bag (which as I understand it, must now be fitted inside the one piece of handluggage you plan to board the plane with - I am regularly asked to prove at check-in that my small handbag, which is usually on my shoulder, will fit inside the sports bag I also carry)

Aiport duty free in Spain is about 15-20% more expensive than buying in Spanish shops and Kiosks etc.

Re: Ryanair

Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Spanish Airports and Air Navigation) ... Aena are looking in two this as many brake there contracts with the airlines , if happen to you just email the airport you flighting from , Make sure you get a receipt is a written acknowledgement that a specified article or sum of money has been received as an exchange for goods or services .
that need to know time you boared you flight and gate no , well for cctv footage that can look at

.....

You can still buy liquids and other substances covered by the regulations, in containers of any size, after the security screening point and on board European airline flights Aiport duty free shops. Liquids , cigarettes and gels purchased after the security screening point or on board will be packed and sealed for you in a tamper-evident bag as necessary by the shop or cabin personnel . the bag cant be repacked in to bags that are not sealed for you in a tamper-evident bag . EU Regulation (EC NO 1546/2006) adopted by the European Commission responsible for Aviation Security .

I always buy my cigarettes from a tabac, but since the introduction of the new regulations regarding the amount of liquid you are allowed to carry in your handluggage, it seems the only choice is buy in the supermarket and place in your hold baggage (risking a case full of clothes reeking of whatever spirit/wine etc you packed with them) or buy airside in the Duty Free Shop.

If you don't mind going broke. I made the mistake of buying a 500 ml (i.e. small) bottle of pepsi at Murcia airport, in the departure area. It cost me 2.60E. Lesson learned.

Take a pair of tall leather/sheepskin boots with you, one bottle in each and one wrapped in a towel between them, normal stuff packed around them. ;-))

Have often brought a bottle or two home from a ski holiday, lurking inside each of my ski boots

I travel every 2 weeks and usually have at least 1 bottle or a jar everytime, I have been doing it for almost 5 years and have only ever had one bottle broken which I actually thought was well wrapped( in a tin bottle container containing a cardbord sleeve .I normally use good old bubble wrap now ,I suppose I am tempting fate saying this now .

I must admit, we have never had anything broken either, when securely packed in bubblewrap and placed in a hard-sided case, wrapped in a towel amongst all the clothes, but its usually household objects such as mirrors, photoframes, that we carry - rather than bottles or jars. I just don't fancy opening a case full of clothes reeking of Jagermeister or Cherry Brandy ;)

Just had the dates for one of my forthcoming flights moved up a day. Anyone else noticed this, or know why they are doing this?

Tuesday flights already cut out and now Wednesdays too. This affects about 3 trips for us. Only Monday & Friday I think through April/May......Trouble is they always opt for the flight following to change it to and we would prefer the one before! So will have to spend the cost of the flight in phone calls no doubt to get it sorted.....

We tried this afternoon at Stansted but the flamin computer system was down so the nice man couldn't change our flights.

Anyway going to enjoy our short break in much warmer Spain and then go back and se what can be done.

Our daughter booked to come home Friday 3rd April from Sevilla ... she has been moved to Saturday 4th April by Ryanair. No Friday flight!

susique Feb 13th 2009 10:52 pm

Re: Ryanair

That's worrying - we had assumed they might be trying to push all their customers to Seville and pull out of Jerez - boohoo! However, it looks as though they are making cuts all round for this area, which looks a little more optimistic for Jerez again.

We tried to change our flights at Stansted yesterday en route, but just our luck the site was down, and the nice Ryanair man was not able to re-book for the earlier dates we wanted. We shall have to wait till we get back to Blighty and phone now.....

bil Feb 13th 2009 11:09 pm

Re: Ryanair

Well, I must admit that Jerez suits me far better as it's an hour closer to home than Seville.

Just realised that I only put one of my OH's (who's Spanish) surnames when I booked our tickets back to UK next month. Do you think we'll have any problems? I've given all our passport details, etc. so it's not like they don't know who's flying. I just don't want to be told we can't board the flight. I'll be alright at least.....

Re: Ryanair

It's an old joke. I spell my name bil, not Bill. It harks back to a book called 'Bill the Galactic Hero' by Harry Harrison, an SF writer. It was a p*ss take of the Space opera genre, and Bill is press ganged into the Space Marines. When he gives his name to the petty officer to note down he says 'Bill with two Ls., the PO writes b-i-l in large illiterate letters and snarls at him 'Two Ls officers only. Learn yer place.'

A good friend read the book, lent it to me on the Friday as we went out of school, and when I went in on Monday morning, having read the book, he had gone in before me and gone thru all my books crossing out the second 'L' and writing underneath, 'Two Ls officers only.'

It stuck, so 40 years on I am still just bil, with one 'L'.

Well, as long as they can still fly me into Jerez reliably and cheaply, I just don't care.

Re: Ryanair

So, does anyone know what happens if a Spanish person doesn't have both surnames on their ticket? Does it matter, as long as Ryanair has our passport details? Didn't want to start a new thread, and definitely don't want to ring them (probably will cost more than the ticket) and can't seem to find the info on their website. Thanks in advance.

I would guess as long as it is the last part of the name that you put down then it should be ok, although it is supposed to be as per passport and as it`s that company, who knows.

Re: Ryanair

We spelled our friend's name incorrectly when booking her a ticket, there was no problem.

I met a lady on friday night and she had to fly back with Monarch instead, I dont know what they are up to .

Ryanair article in todays Daily Mirror

Yes its been done to death but for anyone not in the know. It was reporting on ryanairs charging for excess hand baggage before boarding which is only fair, 1 person 1 hand luggage or else its £28 excess charge.

What was reported is that by the end of the year, ryanair will change over to an entirely online booking system, no airport check in desks will be manned. Now that begs the question of how on earth are you going to check in hold luggage!

As I have suspected for some time Mr O'Leary is trying to operate his planes like a flying bus service, passenger only, no baggage.

Re: Ryanair article in todays Daily Mirror

There will be bag drop areas in much the same way as BA currently operates (and i think Ryanair do in some airports).

In the Sunday Times today it said 75% of uncle Mick's fans check in on-line, right now.

And yes, he says he does want people just to carry hand baggage only.

Do you think there will still be the charge for checking in when booking the flights:( Most time I only have hand luggage but might go back this crimbo so will take hold as well.

Well, I usually book hold luggage in at the airport, there is a desk for that, as it means I only pay for a one way ticket for my luggage. My hold luggage only goes one way.

I thought they charged more for luggage added at airport rather than online.

With Easyjet I book 2 single tickets and only 1 has hold luggage.

Useful tip ... I wondered how to get around the problem of hold luggage automatically going both ways with Ryanair ... now I know what to do
