I think the main problem with him taking over Aerlingus is the aircraft, as they run mainly Airbus and Mick sticks with Boeing.
It would likely cause a whole string of problems and extra costs with his servicing depts unless he kept them all completely separate in which case efficiency would be a major problem as well as getting existing Aerlingus staff to dance to his very different tune.

Another problem in Lanzarote apparently
However Ryanair's story is different...
But surely the same 'dangerous weather conditions' would have effected the other aircraft queueing - including the other Ryanair one...
On Tuesday a Ryanair flight that departed from Leeds-Bradford Airport was required to request permission to land in front of other waiting planes at Lanzarote’s Arrecife airport because it was low on fuel, a spokesman for the public airport authority AENA has told Spanish news agency Efe
The Irish company has however released a statement saying that Tuesday’s landing request was due to the dangerous weather conditions, rather than a lack of fuel,

What on earth is going on with Ryanair?
(I made that last bit up...)
The loss of cabin pressure during a Ryanair flight from Madrid to the Canary Islands on Friday morning saw the plane have to turn around and perform a forced landing, touching down at Barajas an hour after having taken off, according to sources from the airline and the airport
“Is Ryanair a safe airline?†asked the spokesman for the consumer group Facua, Rubén Sánchez, on Friday morning. “We are calling on the Public Works Ministry to take action once and for all,†he said. “It seems as if they are waiting for there to be a big accident before they take action against the Irish company.â€
"I see they're gobbing off about Ryanair again" said O'Leary "Sure but the bloody idiots could've held their breath for few minutes couldn't they?"

People in Glasshouses
.
Remember that Spanish airliner that crashed not so long ago killing lots of ppl.
because the pilots had forgotten the simple basic function of extending the slats prior to take off.

Has Dick nominated himself the forum's apologist for Ryanair. I suppose he'll say (with some justification) that he is attempting to bring some balance to the discussions.

Chopping quite a lot of routes it seems, 36, and cutting number of flights on 78 more. That's a lot! I guess it's to be expected, lots of countries within the EU suffering at the moment. I used to fly BMIbaby from Cardiff, they've gone, and going from B'ham in September

Luckily Ryanair don't fly from Newcastle to Malaga I use Easyjet prices have gone up but they have always been ok for us. I have only ever used ryanair once in my life that was Prestwick to weeze an old camp I was posted to, not a great experience but got us there ok. Whenever I think of the EU Ministers milking the system that smiling Goon Kinnock and his wife spring to mind, say no more another failed politician made a fortune.
I wish they would fly out of Cardiff

Well, very little. EJ Málaga-Bristol are awful times, getting back into Bristol about 0140, and looking this month I don't think they have any flights less than £100 per person each way. We we looking thinking about maybe having a couple of weeks, but I'd rather not bother than pay that. Around £400 plus all the add ons, whilst I can afford it, I won't be paying that on principle.

I suppose it's been said before, but I wonder what price punters would be paying to fly with other so called budget airlines, if there was no cut throat competition from RA.?
Whoever they fly with they should get down on their knees and thank the Lord for good old Michael.

The fact he puts a bit excitement into their boring lives with all these emergency landings etc. can surely only be an added bonus.

NO i cant afford the escalating prices as I have got used to flying often back and fore at reasonable tariffs.

Oh dear, they're in trouble again.
Flew back home with an empty plane leaving all the passengers to fend for themselves.
