I dunno. It nicely highlights how the taxes affect you. They aren't Ryan, they are the government screwing every penny out of you that they can.

I listened to someone the other day saying he was sick of Labour and their stealth taxes, and couldn't wait for the Tories to get in. I just fell about laughing.

This poor fool thinks that things will change if that happens, that the Tories will abolish Labour's stealth taxes and we will enter the land of milk and honey!

All that will happen is that the Tories will introduce more stealth taxes of their own.

I have been psychically channelling the spirit of the next Prime minister, and while things are too cloudy to see which party gets in, three things are clearly visible.

1. There will be more taxes

2. There will be more red tape.

3. There will be less freedom.

Least you think that I am biased towards any party, let me assure you that there are only two types of politician

1. Scum

2. Plausible scum.

Has anyone actually tried to fathom what the word 'TAX' actually means when applied to airfares with the low cost airliines?

Now my understanding of any tax is that it is usually a percentage added to the price of something (except the latest carbon tax on airfares which is a flat rate levied)

So how come all the airlines advertise fares at say ONE PENCE and then the tax runs into pounds? even at 100% tax it would only make the fare 2p.

Something needs to be done to make the whole area of flight taxes more transparent for the end user.

I think included somewhere in that word TAX, is the charge that the airport make for using it. I think?

Airlines by law now have to advertise prices including all taxes but not luggage and priority boarding or any other ad on costs .

Ryanair as of the end of feb will be the the last to fall in line , their web site will be down for a couple of days to initiate the changes .

Where they have competition i believe they will be at about £20, but as Crispy says will continue with promotions that offer to pay your taxes on selected routes , this will be headline loss leaders . £5 flights replacing 1p flights.

An example of this is the Stansted to Jerez / Seville routes , competition to Seville,(Clickair) no competition to Jerez 45 mins away check out the price differences !

I just tried skyscanner to find flights for my daughter. the cheapest on there was £60 more expensive than going to Thomsonfly direct from Birmingham like for like!!!
I dont understand how they can claim to get the cheapest flights when they are clearly not

Hi

I use both Ryanair and Easyjet from Stansted to Granada, Seville and Malaga fairly frequently and find them both good value, once you accept the pricing structure. I have frequently managed to get £30.00-£40.00 return fares inc taxes and luggage etc. How can you fault that really

Thanks
