Is it really worth buying anything at the duty free shops these days? My experience of the ones in Spain is that they're far more expensive than Tesco in the UK (and when does anybody ever eat those huge Toblerones, anyway). So unless you want "special" spanish branded goods that you can't get past the security checks, why bother?

I heard that they are paying the staff a percentage of the extra money they are charging for peoples overweight bags so now the staff are taking extra special attention to every bag.

I'll take the other one and a half seats - give plenty for them to moan about.
On another note - the 20e paid for tickets - do you get these deals all the time, or just a couple of weeks in advance. I am looking at July at the minute and the cheapest with taxes etc. is about £65. Is it worth waiting and keep checking or take these as the cheapest?

They are tight on weight at Malaga, they pulled us but it was their scales stuck on 19 k, they sent us to take some stuff out and weighed the next peopls cases and they showed 19k too.
Stansted no problems, people were going through with huge back packs and holdalls.

I hear from a family member who works for AENA at Madrid airport that it is highly likely that Ryanair will be kicked out because they are pulling scams on the airports authority as well - things like demanding priority landing because they don't have the fuel on board for stacking. Also allegedly not paying their landing fees.

I had friends visit they arrived no problems with Easyjet and returning with Ryanair.
All was fine until they tried too board, 2 went on plane no problems and the third was not allowed onto plane.
They were removed and the plane left.
They were then instructed that the name on the ticket did not match the passport, the sir names being the wrong way around.
Ryanair then lost interest as its your responsibility, but there info states you can change a name on the ticket for £150 up to 40 minutes before boarding, they managed to wait until the plane left to explain is was too late and to explain nobody realised until they entered the plane. Its not as if immigration in Spain ever looks at a passport now is it and on entering both UK and Spain all you need at immigration is a passport you never get asked to show both.
Yet Easyjet did not mind, the ticket being the same as the Ryanair one.
So they had to rebook with Easyjet on a flight leaving that day at a cost of almost £1,000.00
We will never use Ryanair, fair enough a rule was broken, but leaving a family with a disabled boy in an airport when they don't speak much english and to wash there hands afterwards is morally disgusting.
Easyjet though were marvelous and although I guess the grand's worth of business made the difference at least they helped out.
I wouldn't p88 on a Ryanair member of staff if they were on fire.
I guess that is what happens when a pikey is running a business.

Does anybody know if Ryan air are flying from East Midlands to Valencia? We have ravelled for the past 3 years, but can't seem to find a booking site for the airports?

ryanair in the UK now weigh HANDLUGGAGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AT THE GATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so even `if it fits` but is a gram over 10kg you will get stiffed 30 euro
(they have a portable credit card machine
)
you have been warned as they weren`t doing this is in Spain,
ie, you`ve been lulled into a false sense of security going out

A couple of years ago we travelled with BMIbaby taking hand luggage only. No problems going out from Alicante airport but on our return through Manchester airport we had to pay £12 each as we were told we were over the size/weight for hand luggage. Even though we were taking back less than we had took out

Ryanair rules are moved or rather worked so that they can fund the low cost airlines high running cost's.
I'd say screw the rule breakers too, but also I defend people who have followed the rules, but still get punished.
Having the correct weight is fine, if both means of measurement are showing the right weight.
I guess one mistake most honest posters make is to write honest accounts of there experiences, I'm not to sure many people giving there honest opinions and experiences in response are as honest.
Think about it.

p.s. if your bags were overweight - you shoulda put the excess from one into the other, that way only one bag would cop the excess and the other would be OK.
