RIP our car, advice needed...

We're fully legal, no tax as Gib doesn't have tax, but fully up-to-date on insurance and MOT, it was our main car until it bloody blew up! it is on personalized Gib plates as my OH is Gibraltarian and bought them when he was younger.... think he has had them near on 25 years now!
JDR are you talking here or Gib ref. the scrap?
We're just trying to figure a way of getting some money out of a crappy situation..... the car broke down in Spain.....so need to figure if it is worth paying the grua to get it back into Gib.....

If Gib DVLA operates like UK DVLA you have to "transfer" the plate to your new vehicle. The favoured way to do this if there is no hope of an immediate transfer is to get something like a just about running legal such as a honda 90 bike and "park" the plate there until you need it.

Will have to get the OH to make some calls in Gib on Monday and find out what to do with the plate....
Even for a 2nd hand engine plus labour it'll be 1500 at the least.... we've already spent 2500 on this car as the gear box (10 mths ago) and the starter motor (2 mths ago) and battery (1 mth ago) died.... so we've pretty much decided to call it a day with this one now! Can't keep throwing good money after bad as they say!
Looks like neither Spain nor Gib scrap will give us anything for it....
Am thinking about maybe trying to advertise it for spares? What do you guys think? It is a Ssang Yong Musso and we know from experience that parts for this are really expensive!
Feeling a bit down in the dumps!

Talking of Gibraltar and personnel car plates I remember seeing a couple of cars outside the Gib Gay Liberation Front HQ One had the registration RU1 and the other car was RU1 2.

Very sorry to hear about your car, I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when my 4 year old Omega gearbox disintegrated. I was quoted 3000e for a replacement box in Malaga! I found one on ebay for £200.00 and a chap coming back to Malaga brought it for me for £100.00 another £100 euros and a set of seals from Opel and I was back on the road again...... just a possible idea that you may not have thought of. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks for the advice...
We bought the replacement gearbox last Dec from a breakers in the UK, it was a lot cheaper than buying new here and 2nd-hand here wasn't to be found...
The engine going through the same kinda route would still be sooo expensive, the car is 16 years old so we have to call it a day sometime!
...still down in the dumps!
