Re: Restaurants

We went to the Vicentes opposite the bus station and they did not have my 1st three choices which was disappointing as I ended up having something that wasn't really exciting me. Also I am yet to find, as mentioned by others, a restuarant that has loads of lovely fresh veg on the plate, apart from Jags, whose food I love. I asked for veg. once and got some overcooked peas. Anybody got any good suggestions?

I live in Tavira and shop in Ayamonte. I go to a small old tapas bar by the market. It is cheap and excellent- not a tourist or expat place!! It is called El Palader in Louis Braille - outside the back door of the market. I really recommend it!!

Re: Restaurants

Had 2 good "new" meals.

Tried the 7 course tapas dinner at El Faro on La Ribera. 15€ for 2 people. Attractive presentation, tasty though it is fish/seafood if you're not of that disposition including cod, choco, prawns & anchovies. And the tinto was enjoyably fruity.

Also went to "La Cocina de Vicente". Again excellent imaginative tapas. Atun a la Naranja - yummy, smoked salmon? with papaya, and delightful Atun Sashimi - in effect seared atun.

And still need to get back to Puerta Ancha and Casa Vicente for other delights.

I do hope these all succeed.

An update.

Casa Vicente still as good as ever.

Tried El Ferry, twice. The meals were both wonderful; especially the tropical seafood salad (came in half a pineapple, which had been hollowed out). Only query was the lack of real veg both times. Obviously we were ordering the wrong choices - but to reiterate, both meals were great.

Jury still out on Puerta Ancha.:unsure: Used to be one of our favourite tapas bars, but not sure about the new menu; bit too much form and no substance. :( Might give it one more go as the Irish girl is lovely and friendly, but we go for the food. One saving grace is some wonderful wines. :)

Most of you will have used the chiringuito LA SONARISTA on the beech in front of the new Spa Hotel at Marina Canela. What you may not know is that it was completely destroyed by fire earlier this year.

The good news is that after a massive effort by the owner and a team directed by the carpenters who worked on my house, Carl Towner and Toby it will re-open at lunch time on this Friday 8th July.

The even better news for us punters is that the regular live group will also play a set to celebrate the new start.

Yes T Bag will play on Friday afternoon at LA SONARISTA at Marina Marina Canela. Over the last 5 weeks there has been a massive effort by all concerned to re-establish this favorite live music bar restaurant.

Get on down there and support the effort by all concerned.

Re: Restaurants

The restaurant at the Golf Club "Golf Dourado" held a celebration last Sunday to mark the end of the second year since the "girls" took over the running of the bar.

It was a great success with a delicious buffet of Tapas and finishing with a huge 2nd Birthday cake.

Entertainment was provided by "Jackie" and the group "T Bag" who combined for a few numbers and finished with 3 sets after mid night.

A great night was had by all.

For info the club now do a traditional Sunday lunch each week with the usual roasts 3 courses and a drink for €10

The whole bar and terrace was full without being uncomfortable.

With Sunday lunch it is much more relaxed spread over the whole afternoon and a live group play on the terrace.
