Firstly the 50 euros food bill was not for my customers, it was only for me, as i will be at the bar every dayand night.... just a few bits to have in the house.

Whats the typical price for a car hire ( runaround one ) for the month,

and as we are married i hear thats its just one payment per month for the national insurance

for the year we can be covered by A&E air ambulance for a one off payment of 350 euros x

????

... Wow, I hadn't heard that it was just one payment to cover both and, more importantly, I hadn't heard that you can decide what level of cover you get - I thought it was a fixed figure (dependant on job) to cover the NI (health + ...)

I heard you mentioned buying on Fuengirla Port. I think this is unwise Every bar is for sale there and it does not get the trade

my husband pays his monthly social security, whcih covers the both of us and our son for healthcare - its approx 240€ per month

never heard of the air ambulane thing either

dont forget your tax and IVA (VAT) bills too plus your gestor fees

Ford KA or similar is approx 350€ per month but you might be able to do a deal for longer rents with the car hire company

OK Both

Well, going down the list I cannot comment on the rental but,

The electric bill for my 2 bedroomed villa is €80 - €100 a month, electricity is expensive here
As regards water, it varies I know but we pay €40 - €70 a quarter, and thats with keeping the pool filled up

We spend between €70 - €140 on food for two of us every 2 weeks

Our phone & Internet is €70 a month
If you want SKY TV then you're going to pay UK contract rates I guess as SKY is not legally broadcast over here. Thats about €55 - 60 a month based on SKY Sports on its own.

Phone / car / rental I cant comment on

For self employed the minimum payment I think is €235 a month

Not sure you will hold too much stock for €200

I was in a bar in Benidorm last year and they were telling me that they were only allowed so many tables outside their bar, depending on the sq footage of their premises, don't know about terrace tax though

Where did you get your car hire rate from, do you have a special deal with someone.

Oh and you need public liability insurance, property insurance of course

I think the air ambulance service being referred to is http://www.helicopterossanitarios.com/
If you are paying social security, you wouldn't need to be paying for any form of private health insurance cover, unless you wanted to of course.

Terrace tax varies according to the local authority - I am not sure that Benidorm actually charges it - we were told our terrace tax would be €400 per year - in actual fact it was €1600 - it can also vary by how many tables you have on the terrace, what months you have the tables out etc etc. It really is a minefield.

I really think you need to do much more research. The figures that you were quoting in your earlier post were way off - your electric is going to be sky high in the summer with air conditioning etc. and as said it is not cheap at the best of times.

You will need certainly to check everything has the right licence i.e. one for music, one for selling drink, one for selling food - they may be combined (but I am not sure) but some Councils charge individually but God help you if you dont have the right licences and someone shops you to the Council.

Will you be buying or leasing? My OH runs a small drinks bar. You will have to pay €250 a month social security (both of you if you are both working there.)
He pays about what you quoted for electricity and water but he doesn't cook on the premises. The gestoria charges €60 + IVA a month but he sorts out all of the accounts, legal paperwork etc. The thing I think you are underestimating the most is your bill for stock. He only buys drink and snacks but it can cost between €250 - €600 a week. He is making a good profit though.
All the advice that has been given on here is worth heeding. People will say anything they think you want to hear if they are desperate to sell. We heard a lot of it before finding the bar that was right for him (OH).

Your terrace was a minefield!!!! - Your customers might have stayed till they were legless but I bet you didn't get much repeat custom, not surprised you didn't do too well.

ok, starting from the top i'lll tell you what we pay in our bar and at home.
bills at bar 400 e a month electricity (on average)
no gas, gas bottles at 11ish euros each, lasts ages, phone 45 euros a month.

food shopping, 3 of us we spend on average 80 to 100 euros a week at home
internet we pay 45 euros a month.
car rental, no idea
200 euros for stock, we spend around 500 a week at least
terrace tax. no idea we have no terrace.
social security 250 a month each. If husband is working his payments cover the whole family, but if both working then both pay, same as NI in uk i guess.
tax, not sure gestor does all that, and hubby pays it!

Maybe better to come over to spain for a visit and chat to bar owners in the area you are thinking of.

Its not always the agents that are greedy with the prices its quite often the owners thereselves putting the same bar up with different agents at different prices. Having one listed at 80k then having the owner call a few weeks later and ask the price to be dropped by 20 - 25K is common here. So never be afraid to make an offer , they can only say no.
