If you are not sure if your phone is 'locked' to a specific Network in UK, then try a SIM card from another network? If that works then all you need is a Spanish SIM card that can be purchased in many places in Spain. There are 3 main networks. MOVISTAR (which is part of the giant Spanish telephone people TELEFONICA) , VODAFONE Spain and AMENA. Most people go for MOVISTAR because it appears to have a good reception in most areas. VODAFONE is also good.
If your UK phone is 'locked' to one Network, then get it unlocked in UK. You can do that for FREE 'online' if is it's a NOKIA (& some other phones) - Try any of these sites:

Hi Josephina,

No I have no idea how much it is to call UK on a Spanish SIM since I take my home mobile to Spain as well and that is on a contract that gives good rates to phone home so thats what I use. It is bound to be cheaper than using the Spanish Pay as You Go SIM.

Sat Nav depends on Geostationary Satellites to obtain the position of the instrument on the ground. That part will work anywhere in the world that it can see the satellites and receive a signal. To translate that signal into meaningful information on the ground depends on the software held inside the receiver, if you do not have the software for the country you are in it can give you no more than the co-ordinates of where you are without street maps and such.

Regards,

John.

I think Carphone Warehouse might sell Spanish SIMS. Try their website or a branch. I'm sure someone in one of the branches mentioned it a few years ago.

I posted this earlier on the "internet cafe/mobile phone" thread, but it might help here, as well.

Its much cheaper to phone the UK on a landline in a callcabin, or with a callcard. If you have a UK phone with free minutes ask if they qaulify from Spain to UK, that may be better.
