Re: Proof of income for residency
It does not seem right that a second person is more than double a single person, because the utilities will be more but not double if 2 people live in the proerty........so the calcs seem a bit skewed to me.
But if it puts paid to people coming over on a wing and a prayer with a kid or 2 in tow, and is hoping to scrape by on 800 a month and be without medical insurance, it is a good thing in my view.

Re: Proof of income for residency
I see what you're saying but they don't say what it is for just a couple, they seem to jump from a single person to a family of three. What about the retiring couple with no dependants, with a company pension then surely based on the initial 5,007.80 € plus 8,763.65 € for the spouse? I would have thought......
Well, the law says that your income cannot be less than 5.007,80 € per year. However, if you live with your wife/husband plus your son/daughter, the minimum should be 21.283, 15 € per year. This number is increased by 8.763, 65 € per family member.

2 people don't need more than twice as much to live on as one - the big costs such as rent & utilities would barely increase for one extra person

5k for a single person to live on is almost impossible, and if they rekon that a singlton can live on such a piddling amount and pay bills, then why add 8k on top for what is only really extra food.

I read it the same way, but it would make more sense to be 8k for the first person and then 5k for another to be added.

That's good we are agreed 13K for a couple but I doubt if you could afford Med Ins out of that as seems to be the condition?

If you don't have mortgage repayments or rent to pay, I think that could be affordable with an income of 13,000€ per year.

On the Spanish govt website it doesn't mention figures, it says this (machine-translated):
"Provision of resources for themselves and their family members not to become a burden on the social assistance of Spain during their period of residence.
The accreditation of the possession of sufficient resources shall be carried out by any means test supported in law, such as title, certified checks, substantiating documentation of obtaining income from capital or credit cards, providing in the latter case an updated Bank certificate stating the quantity available as the aforementioned card credit.
The assessment of the adequacy of means must be made individually, and in any case, taking into account the personal and family situation of the applicant.
Accreditation for compliance with this requirement shall be deemed the possession of resources which are higher than the amount each year to fix the General State Budget Act to generate the right to receive a non-contributory benefit, taking into account the personal and family situation of the person concerned."
So I guess there is quite a lot of scope for interpretation by different Oficinas de Extranjeros?

Re: Proof of income for residency
Hi, following this with interest, thanks for all the info! We are 55 and 56 and planning early retirement (lifes far too short) We already have a house in Baza, and hopefully will satisfy the income bit. Can I ask Lynn regarding the health insurance? We cannot get a quote under 160 euros per month from Staysure. (No pre existing).
Thanks all, once more.
