Proof of Builders Tax status??

Isn’t this a bit like standing at the checkout in Carrefour, with a TV in your trolley, and deducting the IVA before paying the bill unless they proved to you that they had paid their taxes? I wouldn’t try it.
Whether a trader has paid his tax bill is none of your business.
Whether a trader has paid his tax bill is none of your business.
And like you say it`s none of the customers business whether he pays his tax on time or even not at all !!, you cant demand to see an autonomo`s accounts!!!Seems like a case of someone worrying about other peoples affairs rather than getting on with their own!!

Hi,
The issue for me isn't if and when he pays his accounts, as you all correctly say, that is his concern not mine.
It's whether he is registered to take IVA from me on behalf of the government.
If he isn't, then he's deceiving me, them, and taking an extra 16% in the process.
If he's a legit autonomo then he should oblige me with a look at his registration, I still don't feel that is unreasonable.

However I hired a guy to repair a leaky roof under the impression he was legit and later found out he wasn't.
His receipt had no info on it apart from his name, partial address, work done and cost.
My insurance co.paid up promptly,no questions asked, and even paid quite a bit more than I had claimed,so I asked no further questions either...lol.....

I had a €4000 claim with Allianz and they sent me the money before the work had even started!

[QUOTE=abrucken;8092995]Hi,
I said to him that I wanted an invoice for the work from the outset - the job was an expense against income. He agreed to this.
As I said, I have no objection to paying IVA - what if I had! - I simply don't want give him extra money which he will pocket.
The best way to put an end to all this would be to ask for his bank details, make the transfer, that way you would have a record of the transaction and he can rightly charge you IVA.
But, I would guess he would prefer cash, if so I very much doubt he would declare the IVA.
Good luck!!

I bill my clients, they pay (Sometimes) what i do with the money after is my business.
I alocate income for Public liability insurance, training, tax and NI. But its not any of my clients business if I instead go and buy a Porsche.
I also assume my clients have checked me out before employing me and realise i don`t yet own that Porsche.
It may have been wise to check out your people before they buy there Porsche.
I`m no expert and cannot be bothered with google, but I`m assuming if you pay him cash without an IVA receipt and he does not pay IVA you could be liable for Mr Taxman wanting to view your financial history.
If you have a receipt for a bill showing you paid the business and IVA was included, then Mr Taxman likes you and your covered, remember ignorance is no defence in law, how or what your man does with that bill isn`t up to you, but you cannot deduct the IVA cos you think he won`t pay it, then your in Mr Taxman bad book.l

Just found out that NIE and NIF are in fact exactly the same. NIF's are quoted for fiscal matters whereas they are referred to as NIE's when talking about identity only.

For foreigners that's true but a Spaniard cannot have an NIE - he has a DNI instead.
