When they are still inside or on the outside of the nest I normally spray them first before clipping or sawing off the branches with one of those long extendable handled gadgets.
The spray won't kill everything in the nest, but helps prevents anything from becoming airborne when the branch drops,.....then I spray again on the ground before poking a big hole in the nest with a longish sharp stick and finally spray well,through the hole.
I always wear gloves and goggles and keep my arms and legs covered.
Thats just my way of dealing with them.
I'm not recommending it or claiming its the best.
