Not just arrogant, an idiot and rude too. No you don't know what to do, neither does anyone else. |

Hi, zapping from the France forum...
This summer we put up a couple of traps (similar to wasp traps) with pheromones that attract the male butterflies. A large number were drowned, so we hope that fewer female butterflies will be laying fewer eggs, leading to fewer caterpillars next year.... We bought these traps from a company in Lyon via Internet - there's sure to be a similar company in Spain. If you've got nests in your garden, you can cut the branches off in the winter and burn them (take care to wear gloves, otherwise you'll get itchy spots). Not much you can do about the caterpillars once they start processing, except stamp on them all! Unfortunately, dogs don't realize the danger of touching them. Our neighbour's dog tried to eat one last year and half his tongue was burnt off.:( Poor dog. :( |

Get your head around the fact that we went fully prepared to a suitable place for barbecues. The ranger would not have allowed us, if he thought there was a high risk. Now in Cádiz there just happens to be a lot of water, watery ground hmmmmm...... |

Throughout my time living here in Spain I have seen many blind eyes turned to the law, children riding in cars without seat belts, mobile phone use whilst driving, consumption of alcohol then taking control of a vehicle, riding mopeds without head protection or with toddlers balanced on the front of the bike. The fact that a 'blind eye' was turned, that you were with native Spanish people or have friends that are members of the police force would I am sure be of no consolation to anyone losing property or life due to your behaviour. Accidents happen and with the best will and knowledge in the world fire is a powerful entity unto itself and personally I would hate to have death and destruction on my conscience. The laws in all countries are there for a reason and when we are constantly seeing destruction and loss of life due to fire around the world I am astounded that you should be so flipant in relation to this. Obviously people's choices are exactly that, 'their choices' the consequences can often affect many others who did not make the same choice but somehow get caught up in the aftermath. Your choice...yes. Irresponsible...in my opinion yes. |

Let's just leave it at that and get on with the thread about outdoor living. |

Your choice...yes. Irresponsible...in my opinion yes. OK you make some valid points and I realise people have lost their properties in the terrible fires. What I disagree with is people assuming where we held the barbecue. The reason the ranger turned a blind eye was that it was in a place that is suitable to have a barbecue with people who know what they are doing. It´s a bit hard for concrete to catch fire... Life is not so black and white. |

( Its one thing that you are advised NOT to do. The tiny fine caterpillar hairs which are the main danger, very easily become airborne and then your problems can begin. |

There has been an article on them in the free beer thread for years warning about them.

Hi
So dont stamp on them? xxx:) Absolutely not, the hairs are poisonous and fly through the air. Don´t handle them or their nests either. Keep children and pets well away from them. |
