Moving to Gibraltar.........
#31
Hi Everyone,
I'm also looking at moving to Gibralter. I work from home now in the UK for a US company and this would remain the same. The wife and I don't have any kids...yet. How do I start even trying to move there? Are there any special visas or paperwork I need to do? Sorry but I don't have a clue about any of this and any help would be great.
Thanks

Hi, I can't seem to find anything on the moving process. It seems to be all about schooling fees. Is it as simple as finding a place to rent and then getting on a plane. Do I have to do anything with banking? Tax?

If you read the threads on GIB you will find schooling and accommodation is expensive on Gib, and most people seem to choose to live in Spain and commute over the border. However this isnt without problems either.

Schooling is free whilst accommodation is expensive in Gibraltar

If you look in the Free Beer thread you will find at the bottom lots of links to Gibraltar including Tax

Gibraltar banks are mostly offshoots of UK High St banks.

Hi, we're in the same boat, I have a job offer in Gibraltar but I think we'll live in Spain as Gib has much higher rental/purchase costs.
What I've found out to date:
You need to live or own property in Gib to have a residency permit which entitles you to free schooling
Spanish schools are free but if you work in Gib and live in Esp you're probably eligible to pay taxes in spain after you've lived there for around half a year, the good news is your tax liabilities can be offset against an allowance which is granted for each child.
We should be moving in April so if you've not gone by then I'll let you know how we get on, we have 4 kids age 4-8 so the school thing is a big consideration for us....
Sorry can't help you in the great ape debate!

Are you staying in Gib and schooling children there or was Spain your option.Have the offer to move over with my partner and two children age 7 and 12, just wish a guide of costs etc and what you have found to be the best way to live a comfortable life over there.
If anyone else wishes to get back to me that would be great, but really looking for information from someone living there, with children about the same age. To give me a guide on schooling and what my role would be getting them there and back. As it may take me time to get a part-time job to fit in with the kids etc and looking at the cost of everything we may need my part-time wage sooner than later.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

Everywhere in Gib is within walking distance so getting kids to school is no problem.
