Moving to Gibraltar.........

Yes they can but you will have to pay, sorry but I don't know the cost.
If you live in Gib then the schooling is free.
It has been said elsewhere on this forum that you need to consider the cost of schooling along with the rental and travel costs.
Gib = expensive rent + free schooling + free buses
Spain = cheaper rents + travel cost depends on where in Spain + free Spanish school or expensive English school.

Be as pedantic as you like, I am no expert. I only know what I read on the BBC Nature site some time ago. Also when ever on the Gib I was told not to call them monkeys as they are not technically monkeys, Barbary Apes or Rock Apes.
Whatever we call them I still do not like them another reason I would not like to live near them.

Assuming you are human you are part of the Hominidae family related to other greater apes such as chimpanzees gorillas and orangutans and a close relative of the gibbon which is a member of the same superfamily Hominoidea. Despite the fact the Macaque is tailless it is a member of the subfamily Cercopithecinae which is part of the superfamily Cercopithecoidea but if you really want to get pedantic you could then quote the Papionini tribe and the Macaca genus but the fact still remains they are monkeys and not apes!

Hi, when i have looked into this before if you live in Spain and want to send your children to school in Gib then the fees are around £800-£1000 per term. So as the last person said it is a decision you will have to make regarding expensive rent in Gib - £700 (for a studio) upwards, or cheap rent in Spain - (£400 for one bed) + (i have a 3 bed, 2 bath for 650 euros). Good luck!

Well we will have 3 children to send to school (youngest will be 3 in November) and we are looking at a 3 bed at least. So Gib is def looking the better option.
My hubby and I have talked about maybe a short term let in Spain while I try and get a job and also giving us time to look for accommodation in Gib.
He is also ex Army so he is going on Monday to look into joining Gib Squadron, his Mum already works for the MOD over there so she has some contacts. Thanks for al your help xx

Hi, we're in the same boat, I have a job offer in Gibraltar but I think we'll live in Spain as Gib has much higher rental/purchase costs.
What I've found out to date:
You need to live or own property in Gib to have a residency permit which entitles you to free schooling
Spanish schools are free but if you work in Gib and live in Esp you're probably eligible to pay taxes in spain after you've lived there for around half a year, the good news is your tax liabilities can be offset against an allowance which is granted for each child.
We should be moving in April so if you've not gone by then I'll let you know how we get on, we have 4 kids age 4-8 so the school thing is a big consideration for us....
Sorry can't help you in the great ape debate!

Any expats that can help??
Basically our situation is this... Hubby has family out there, his Grandad is Gibitarian, they lived out there for a few years when he was little as his Dad was in the Navy and stationed there. Four years ago his Mum moved out there and now works for the MOD, last July his elder brother and son moved out there to live with his girlfriend, they are now expecting a little one
We have often said we'd emigrate, and Gibraltar is always coming up as he has such fond memories of his time there, he can get work as a security guard with a firm his brother runs and also as a construction worker, his brother has also said that I would find work easily as I used to run a pub (which I don't really want to do again) but also they are desperate for Admins out there, which I was doing for 12yrs, I am a Teaching Assistant also.
Anyway........ my hubby is going out next week to start looking for a house, he has a job lined up with his brother to get some income coming in while looking for more permanent work and to start saving.
We have 4 children, aged 10,8, 4 and 2. Although the 8yo unfortunately won't be coming with us as much as we want her too
I need help looking for schools and a house- what did you do and how easy was it???????
Many thanks

Hi Everyone,
I'm also looking at moving to Gibralter. I work from home now in the UK for a US company and this would remain the same. The wife and I don't have any kids...yet. How do I start even trying to move there? Are there any special visas or paperwork I need to do? Sorry but I don't have a clue about any of this and any help would be great.
Thanks
