Do not underestimate the heat ( not 54, that's hotter than Death Valley) yesterday it was 38 degrees. After a few years you hate the heat. You cant sleep. You cant move. You get very apathetic. You dont sleep. Its Hell. You soon figure out why the Spanish disappear into their houses from 12.00pm until 10.00pm with the blinds down!!@

We are looking at Zurgena or Arboleas. Do you know anything about these areas? Also is it best to have mains water or water deposit?

Airconditioning sorts it out. But get a wall mounted unit, not a mobile one, they are noisy.

One notorious thing about Spain in the winter is although it can be sunny outside, inside can be extremely cold. It depends upon type of property and location. But you don't see the Spanish sitting outside there houses for nothing during the winter. I often go out onto the terrace to warm up a bit like the gekos you often see in Spain lol. Hence importance of not rushing into anything.

Yes it's funny how everyone thinks its warm all year. Its freezing inside in January and February and then sweltering in August. After a few years you recognise the seasons in the same way in UK. So you font really escape anything you just get reconditioned. Oh but the rain- now that is scary especially the flooding last year. Then you fear that your roof is going to split open!!! Never feel that scared in uk about weather

Can't comment and only driven down that way but these places are quite a bit inland and how would you feel living there all year round, especially when you get older? Most Spanish I know would not pick these places for retirement, unless they were born there. We don't live in Spain full time but looked at all factors should we ever spend more time there.

Where do stay when your over? These places are around 40 minutes from the coast. I thought they would be best of both worlds. Busy coast side, quiet in land?

I agree that having the best of both worlds is good but even 10 mins from the coast you can escape the madness and don't forget that things like public transport might be more important when you get older. You can still have a holiday in Spain when you live there.

You should apply for your NIE from the Spanish Embassy before you go. You need it for everything
