Costs are around 58 euro a month for unlimited data - so it's not a fortune.

I've used a Movistar USB modem on a daily basis (20 hours a day some days!) for the best part of a year and never had any issues - connections are always reliable, throughput consistent - overall far more reliable than any data connection I've used in the UK in the last 8-9 years.

For example, downloading 5GB of data a month for 58 € seems relatively cheap compared to, say, using my UK mobile for data in Spain. For that one pays a fairly european-wide figure of £8 per roaming MB of data which means that same 5GB of data would cost me £40,000 plus VAT in Spain.
€58 to £40,000 + VAT per month for mobile data access? Now THAT is a fortune.

I use a yoigo mobile phone (Sony Ericsson K610i) to access the internet- maximum price of about €1.30 per day for unlimited data- which is a hell of a lot better than anything else I've seen.
The only problem is that in the last couple of weeks they moved over from borrowing the Vodafone network in areas where their own network doesn't work to borrowing the Movistar one. For the first couple of days it was a lot faster where I live in Catalunya, but after that it has been a disaster and I almost can't get phone calls any more. Which is typical of all my experiences where Telefonica have been involved: 'un fracaso total'
However I'm sure they will sort out the problems and in some areas it is probably really good still, so worth a go with a pay as you go sim card. It also works well on Linux (Ubuntu Hardy and PCLinuxOS) which is bonus.
I've also heard that Simyo (Google it) has a cheap data rate and good coverage.
Hope that helps someone...
