made our decision

Re: made our decision
Most UK fits are now mains pressure through Combi Boilers so no probs there and after having jumped through the various hoops for Part P electrical certification I'm hoping the Spanish plumbing certification is a similar process.
As for bricking in the baths, I knew the 4 years bricklaying would come in handy.
That just leaves the Spanish:
Tiempo a conseguir que estudia.
I take the tiling isn't subject to too much red tape.
Thanks for the heads up.

Spain stands for double red tape.
I have never seen a bathroom tiled properly over here unless a Brit has done it. Lol.
They start in a corner and go round, no centralizing or spacers, so plenty of live tiles in a few months.

You may not make a fortune, but you can bet you'll be busy!

current trend is towards walk-in showers. A typical bathroom measuring a little under 3 metres by 3 can be stripped out, rendered, re-tiled, and refitted with new shower, loo and wash basin for a little more than 2000 euros labour and 2000 euros materials. That's to include thermostatic shower controls and shower enclosure - but no bath.

You must be quoting English prices :-))

Re: made our decision
Seriously, they were based on my actual costs three years ago, at £1000 labour and £1000 materials, and I built in a margin for inflation. These prices were lower than all the Spanish quotes I received!

Down to the coast from Mijas is the mecca for builders like yourself - tiles are held on by 'dabs', baths are bricked in as you've been told but the current trend is towards walk-in showers. As for walk in showers thats the trend in the UK too, I've done 6 wetrooms this year so far.
Maybe a location re-think is on the cards.

Use a Spaniard then! Our building costs almost halved when we used a Spaniard as opposed to a Brit. Brits seem to still be working on UK prices because they know thats what Brits are used to.

We both speak Spanish so have no problems communicating and use local suppliers, Spanish electrician etc, but still find it hard to find Spanish builders around here.

Re: made our decision
Have found it difficult to get local Spanish builders, one quote from a local Spanish builder to tile around the pool and build a car port came to over 30,000 euros. Maybe they all have bigger jobs in this area to do and cant be bothered with smaller work.

Re: made our decision
A hint ..... go to your local builders yard and ask them for a recommendation .... thats what we did and the builder was excellent. I know its different in different areas but in general a Spanish builder seems to be cheaper than Brit in this area. But 30k sounds ridiculous I'd agree
