This way you don't need to make a roux, and I like to avoid eating wheat.

I enjoy a bit of chilli paste in that to give it a kick.

If you're going to add a strong source to a meet dish then you may as well eat road kill :) As you wont taste the meat at all.

That's the old joke about British food. They boil or roast the hell out of it to get rid of all the natual juices and then add a source on top to disguise the taste.

Btw, as far as pigeon is concerned I have no idea why you lot are so shocked. Pigeon is as traditional an English dish as it is French or Spanish. We are talking country pigeons here e.g. woodpigeon not the dirty city ones.

Guess they dont sell pigeon at Iceland though.... (sorry, couldnt resist!)

Depends where you source your meat and where you source your sauce:rofl:

I think you`ll find le Français are the biggest sauce user`s.

Eh? What's wrong with sauces? I've never heard this sick joke before. What are you meant to have with your meat then?

I`ve never heard this old joke either ,maybe he should tell it, he`s just anti British ...even though he is:confused:

British food can be a bit bland sometimes but we know how to cook meat and produce it ,Spanish beef is some of the worst Ive ever come across, it`s hard to beat Aberdeen Angus .

It's because the Spanish don't hang and age their beef like Aberdeen Angus and they don't put sources (sic) on:rofl: Isn't all gourmet cooking rated by it's sauce?

Well I have to say, I like most meats. I won't eat French meat though.

As for beating Aberdeen, that's not too hard and don't call me Angus.

South Devon, Sussex, Belted Galloway, Salers, Hereford and White Park... of the list, South Devon are without a doubt the best.

Abby's are the best known of the better tasting beef, but not the best by any chance.

Tried pigeon a couple of times but found the taste too strong for me, much prefer pheasant.

Yes Britain has some great meat. It is the way it is cooked that spoils it.

Lushdaddy, the trick is to keep the juice in the meat. The perception is that the British overcook it, then throw the juice away, then add sauces such as bisto or cheese sauce etc that means it doesnt matter what quality of meat you buy.

There is one story that someone was invited to Sunday dinner where there was a fantastic joint of roast beef. The Spanish girl was looking forward so much to it as it looked and smelt so good. The British host took out the meat from the oven to show everyone then proceeded to throw the natural jiuces i.e. gravy down the sink! And instead covered this lovely meat with powdered bisto granuals.

The Spanish girl said she felt like crying

Spanish meat is very good. As long as you dont go to Mercadona or Iceland. Try Asturian or Galician beef or lamb from Segovia. Again, you get what you pay for.

The next story you may think is racist, but sums up what many Spanish people think about Britain and food. I went to the butchers in Asturias to get some beef with my FIL because my family were coming to dinner. The butcher was recommending an expensive local cut from a particular breed that they dont have in very often. Then my FIL said it was for some English guests who were coming for dinner and the butcher then said "Buy the cheap cut then, they wont be able to tell the diffference"!
