Just to enlighten our friend a little, the R.U.C. ceased to exist in 2001 and the reformed police organisation then became known as the Police Service of N.Ireland.

Just for the record new recruits consist of 50% catholic and 50% non catholic.

True, but that will and does not change the ingrained atitudes of the last 200 years.
Why do they still patrol in armoured vehicles and carry arms, it is not for the protection of the general public.
Ask around the falls road or the bogsde they will always be the RUC.

As for Fred how many dead has there been in the childish dispute between Spain and Gib.

Apologies to Mitzy but there are some forum members who believe that scoring points is more important than discussing a subject that could literally mean the difference between life and death for some in Northern Ireland.

As you will see I have made a couple of wee snips and deletes.

Let's keep on topic folks, if at all possible, without allowing any one poster or comment to bring the tone of the debate down to a personal jibe level.

Sorry that this seems heavy handed but the PDT has gotten into some bad habits (I include jeering and side swiping in this) which spoils this great little platform.

Any probs with that, PM me & I'll effect a slash and burn.

With this subject matter.

I choose peace for the land and all it's people over justice for this dreadful death, but I choose truth for the family & then hopefully, for them, peace and reconciliation also.

I'm English to an Irish mother & I lived during those times as many of us did.

whilst I fully agree with your sentiment, how can you have peace for the land and all its people when some of those people are crying out for Justice and will (eventually - but not necessarily immediately) want to take that Justice into their own hands ?

It is a regrettable part of human nature that whilst many wish for Revenge/Justice and eventually just get on with life that others will let it fester to a point where they explode into action. Some will be the next or the next or the next generation and not actually have been directly involved in whatever.
:(

Adams has been released and his file has been passed to the PPS, not least as a result of Sinn Féin' veiled threats to pull out of the peace process. There's justice for ya. Release our man or we start bombing and murdering again. Retards. The "Curse of Ireland" should have finished the job he started.

Got no Irish connections whatsoever, so my comments are based on feelings, for what they're worth.

First. I think the Good Friday agreement was ill conceived. Appeasement is the word that springs to mind.

Second. Although I condemn Terrorism in all its forms, I always thought that there was something particularly cowardly with the way the Republicans dished out their version of it. More of a gangster culture than people of true conviction.

Rememebr there were at least two sides in this dispute, the UDF and UDA were also killers funded by outside supporters.
There was NO one Republican military group the old IRA ( called the I ran away army in the earl days of the struggle ) was a minority group, it was the Provos who received most of the support from the US and others.
