Justice at last!

It's early days I know but maybe, just maybe we will see justice for Jean McConville at last!

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams held over Jean McConville murder

even if they do him for the one will not be enough to cover all the others he was directly and indirectly responsible for. :(

unless he was given one of those "Get out of jail free" letters we have only just heard about.:frown:

He was not " held " he went to the police station himself.
There is no doubt that the leaders of any of the various political groups during the " troubles " Republican or Orange would have got their hands dirty or at least known of those who were carrying out the shootings and bombings.
My great uncles from NI, " Orange to a Man " one was a police superintendant
admitted that the " UDA, UVF " received intelligence and sometimes even tacit support from parts of the security establishment in NI.
No doubt the Republicans received the same in Eire.
Adams my well be guilty but he is not the only one and they come from all sides of the political spectrum in NI.

We. the British, 'forgave' thousands for their crimes in the UK in order to get peace, Adams was only one of many. Will this turn the clock back to the dark days?

If it does it will be the daftest decision made by our judiciary in many years.

Yes he has. He may well have handed himself in but he is being held and they are looking into extending his detention. Therefore, he is being held.
Oh and right at the moment I care not a drop about "all the others".... Time will come for them.

This my view as well. On the one hand I'm all for justice and on the other I would hate to see sectarian violence reignited because of it. A lot of people in NI have had to swallow many unpalatable things in the name of peace.

At least two of his former colleague have publicly stated that he was responsible for the decision to murder the lady who they had wrongly identified as responsible for passing info to the authorities.

Maybe much depends if they will give official statements or bear witness in court, though I would kind of doubt it, as they would be marked as next on the IRA hit list.

It was pretty common knowledge that he was an obnoxious piece of work with lots of blood on his hands and to my mind an insult to all who suffered at his hands that he was ever allowed to serve in public office.

Just curious, as a this was my era and when I was at school I did a big piece on IRA bombings, It was my understanding that arsewipe Tony Bliar had given them all immunity under the Good Friday Agreement ?

Im sure there was a similar case not long ago where letters were sent out with the notion that no one can be prosecuted no more ?

Cameron said the letters and the decision were a mistake and has recently reversed that ruling.

Interesting that this has reared its head now then, a legal minefield I would say if he is charged.

The people he committed the hideous and cowardly act of taking people from their homes in the middle of the night and putting lead in the backs of their heads have all admitted he was involved, one confession came from his former friend who he says he fell out with over the peace process. That's not true and anyone who knows the truth knows why they fell out. You zip it all you like, me, I'm going to rejoice in his arrest, however long it lasts let's hope this puts pay to his political career the murdering scum bag.

Just as an aside, do you know what her crime was? Jean? Do you know why they murdered her and left her 10 kids as orphans to be split up and raised, mainly, in care? She was delivering census forms to try and earn money but these idiots thought she was an informer.

Please accept my apology as I have attacked the wrong person here, I thought it was you who said we can't discuss pending enquiries but having just read back the few pages on the thread in question and got the wrong guy and for not looking first I have replied like a idiot.

I agree with you in that if he is taken to trial and found guilty then all suspects from which ever sde of the political spectrum should also be tried for their acts.
The resultant breakdown in trust and security in NI will give those troops returning from Afghanistan something to do . More Brtish deaths will follow.

People want justice. The escape from justice these animals have enjoyed for decades creates division. Jean's orphaned son was on the radio today giving an emotional interview. He described vividly how he and his brothers and sisters all saw the faces of those who dragged his mother out of the house to be driven to a ditch and shot in the back of the head while she wept for her children and how even now he could identify them but because of fear and intimidation and the fact that those responsible have not only been allowed to get away with it but are also seen to be profiting and benefiting from it.

Now, stop with the histrionics please, your twisted logic has no place in this thread simply because you are trying to play devils advocate.

Unlike some I have long family and business connectons wth NI.
I had a great Grandmother whose house was destroyed during the sectarian riots.
I have seen the end of a gun pointed in my directon when driving through the wrong part of Belfast.
I could add many other frst hand experiences, Adams et al be they Republican or Nationalist will all have blood on their hands their hands but without them there would not have been any peace process and Brtitsh troops would still be there in large numbers and innocents would still be dying.
I hope the authorities are being just as zealous in seeking justice for those murdered by the Natonalists .
By the way my NI connections are all Protestants so I have no bias n support of Adams.

DD yet agan you demonstrate the lack of knowledge and ignorance that has become your trademark on this forum.

Matt, for once I have to agree with you 100% :goodpost:

We should have put a stop to all this decades ago and ceased to dignify it with the title of "The Troubles". People were murdered on their own doorstep in front of their children for talking to the "wrong" person.

Having talked to many who were out in NI from all 3 services, the hardest thing they found was that at least in places like Afghanistan and other similar countries "the opposition" didn't look and dress the same as the peacekeepers. As one guy said "the confusing bit came because they looked just like us, wore the same clothes as we would off duty. The only time we knew any better was when the pulled out the Gaddafi supplied AK47 and started firing".
This leads to super high tension in expecting every little thing to blow up in your face - which is why so many soldiers had itchy trigger fingers. :(

But as certain factions have and are pushing for the peacekeepers to stand trial then so should the scum like Gerry Adams and his buddy Martin McGuinness - who should never have been allowed near the lunch with the Queen he refuses to acknowledge.

Another one demonstrating a lack of knowldege.
If you prosecute Adams then tou should also prosecute his nationalist counterparts plus those officers in the RUC who acted ilegally and even some of the UK armed forces.
IF you want to start this process in the name of justice then you have to see it through to the very end whoever may get swept up in the investigations.
Are you seeking revenge or justice, make up your minds.

Justice. Justice for those who had loved ones dragged out into the night and were murdered, not in the name of One nation, not in the name of twisted religious morals but because thugs were allowed to rule whole areas of the country. For the record, you're not the only one with NI connections.

It was a catholic mob who drove my great gradmother out of her house in retaliation for a protestant mob who had set fire to the homes of Catholics in the area while the RUC were " busy " elsewhere.
It was Nationalst who set of the bombs in what was one of NI worse days of civilian deaths.
Justice should be for all the victims not just for those were there is a high profile Republican politician involved.
Where are the prosecutions for Nationlists who murdered Catholic civilians.
What happended to those who fire bombed a house killing 3 young boys during the " parade " riots.
People in Northen Ireland have very long memories and feengs of injustice run deep .

Re: Justice at last!

I watched some interviews with the old brigade earlier and saw that the blind hatred was back as though it had never gone away. It had nothing to do with justice nor Adams nor the unfortunate victim, it was all about centuries old wars between Catholics and Protestants.

Like most of us on a British forum, I've lived through the Troubles, in fact it would be more accurate to say I'm living through the troubles. If I lived in Belfast or Glasgow, I would be more affected by them than here in Spain, but I could visit bars only a few miles away where the Troubles are still being re-enacted.

I wish it wasn't so and for the sake of my grandchildren growing up in the UK I would wish internment of silence, not on the former fighters, but on those who pass inane comments from the sidelines.

We need Bill Clinton back again, and soon.

Adams was exempted from that "agreement" because of his constant denial of any involvement in the IRA. They had an analyst on the news earlier talking about it and possible reasons as to why he handed himself in.
