A photographer friend of mine has our part of the world sewn up when it comes to selling postcards, and he sells in big numbers, but by his own admission it's very hard work for very little return. To compete with the big boys, he literally only makes a few pence on each card. He has his "best sellers" but there is always one or two that don't sell, so he's losing on those. Last time I spoke with him he was talking of finishing the business, the rising price of printing, fuel used driving between all his different outlets etc hardly makes it worth the effort. I can only imagine those that sell in small numbers are doing it purely as a hobby.

Are they postcards hes taken himself ????? - could he not sell the prints over the internet or have them printed on canvases and sell them - we do an enterprise thing at school with the kids where they make cards, print mugs, make jewellery - they also stretch peoples photographs onto canvas - would this be something he could do maybe as some of the postcards around Spain are bloody beautiful - ive got my fingers crossed for him that things pick up for him xxxxx

Yes i sell my cards more as a hobby - i dont think there is any money in it these days as has been said the world and its wife are making them lol - i love making them and if people want one they usually ask xxxxx

I can't believe the number of punters I've seen at card making ever since I first started coming to Spain and likewise the numbers travelling with casefulls of cards to make a quick and easy profit on the markets.

A lady friend of mine seriously thought about going into the bra business, because she described most of the Spanish bras as rubbish quality.

I have a friend who made Christmas decoration in the UK, she went for restaurants and independant pubs, they were well over a thousand pounds for a set, all made in velvet and trimmed with good quality stuff, hand beaded etc.

She also made cards, but they were of a high standard, what we see around are people with not much artisic flair, using peel offs etc, trying to make a few bob selling cards.

I am into crafts myself, but more beading and stuff, textiles, I make my own house linen, although I stay away from patchwork.

At the moment we are into fabric fusion using the Margaret Beale soldering iron, my very, very artistic friend is showing me so many techniques.

Im afraid its only a hobby for me at the moment as i dont usually have the time - but its something i enjoy doing and get a great deal of fun from - plus i find it very relaxing tbh - i hope you have as much fun - do you sell any of your crafts me me
Id love to have a go at the jewellery making they do at school but im usually put on card making duty with the kids as they know they get good stuff then - one day i keep telling myself - actually ive bought myself a couple of books a few weeks ago and have had a look through so at some point im going to give it a go i think - good luck with your crafting xxxxx

If it involves a sewing machine its a no no for me - omg - they have a mind of their own those things - i can do hand sewing - well - just about xxxxx

I don't sell anything I make, and I only give them as presents to people who know the work involved, or keep them.

I have just finished making a tablecloth out of nearly transparent voille with beading between 2 layers, it gives a lovely muted effect as well as securing the beads.

The effect is lovely as it looks as though the beads are suspended in mid air, due to the lightness of the fabric.

It took me about 5 weeks to do, and although it was made with someone in mind, it will kill me to part with it.

Just curious cos the Spanish don't generally send cards.
I make for giving and have been lucky enough to sell my 'books' at a party a relative gave to showcase them.

Card making supplies are hard to find here and/or expensive. A good quality, sensibly priced online supplier would be good. Postage and delivery here are somewhat unreliable though.

Claim to be doing ?

I have still kept a lot of my childrens "crafts" they made in school, masks, mother's day cards etc.

One of ours used to muddle up his Ds and Bs, and always wrote To Dabby, one day it turned out right, but then further down the card it said Haggy Christmas.

Ohh well done, I did an alternative wedding album, scrapbooking my style of my sons wedding... never again hahah it turned into 2 books but they love it ... which is what it is all about.

I like my craft work, some folks are rude about card makers, scrapbooking, journaling, others think it is weird, airy fairy time wasting or whatever.
