A photographer friend of mine has our part of the world sewn up when it comes to selling postcards, and he sells in big numbers, but by his own admission it's very hard work for very little return. To compete with the big boys, he literally only makes a few pence on each card. He has his "best sellers" but there is always one or two that don't sell, so he's losing on those. Last time I spoke with him he was talking of finishing the business, the rising price of printing, fuel used driving between all his different outlets etc hardly makes it worth the effort. I can only imagine those that sell in small numbers are doing it purely as a hobby.

A lady friend of mine seriously thought about going into the bra business, because she described most of the Spanish bras as rubbish quality.

I can't believe the number of punters I've seen at card making ever since I first started coming to Spain and likewise the numbers travelling with casefulls of cards to make a quick and easy profit on the markets.

She also made cards, but they were of a high standard, what we see around are people with not much artisic flair, using peel offs etc, trying to make a few bob selling cards.
I am into crafts myself, but more beading and stuff, textiles, I make my own house linen, although I stay away from patchwork.
At the moment we are into fabric fusion using the Margaret Beale soldering iron, my very, very artistic friend is showing me so many techniques.

I have a friend who made Christmas decoration in the UK, she went for restaurants and independant pubs, they were well over a thousand pounds for a set, all made in velvet and trimmed with good quality stuff, hand beaded etc.

xxxxxI have just finished making a tablecloth out of nearly transparent voille with beading between 2 layers, it gives a lovely muted effect as well as securing the beads.
The effect is lovely as it looks as though the beads are suspended in mid air, due to the lightness of the fabric.
It took me about 5 weeks to do, and although it was made with someone in mind, it will kill me to part with it.

I don't sell anything I make, and I only give them as presents to people who know the work involved, or keep them.

One of ours used to muddle up his Ds and Bs, and always wrote To Dabby, one day it turned out right, but then further down the card it said Haggy Christmas.

I like my craft work, some folks are rude about card makers, scrapbooking, journaling, others think it is weird, airy fairy time wasting or whatever.
