I understand that these ITV stations are run on a contract basis i.e. a private company. So things where we all live are going to be different.
I have used the one in Monforte (Galicia) and had reports of the one in Lugo and they are both quick with the turn round. You turn up hand over the docs and your money. They in turn look you up to see what time you are booked. Hand you a car with the time on it. Just go to the entry point of the shed with your card on the windscreen. They call you forward; there is no pushing in the queue because if you are at the front with a later time than you has to wait.
For retests just turn up show the man your docs and he gets fits you in between others. No retest fee if you are within (I think 20 days) and they only test the part that you failed on.

I didn't think it was too bad, all things considered - thorough, relatively efficient (apart from waiting to get the jefe to sign my papers off after having a bit of a nightmare with a post-installed capota etc, but that's another story!) and far more modern than any MOT station I've been to in the UK. Just mentioned the wait because it was nowhere near as bad as someone else's who mentioned hours.

I must once again extol the virtues of living in a built up area. There are several ITV stations within a few minutes drive and they are not all the same. I need to tread carefully here, but some are not as strict as others, and I’m not going to mention names here.

If in doubt, as the OP seems to be, there are friendly Spanish mechanics who weave their magic on your old banger and guarantee the ITV, at a small extra price, of course.

Terrible, isn’t it? But not as bad as getting an MOT sent through the post from the UK.

Update,

Took car in foe ITV yesterday, and it failed, but the good news is that no-one seemrd to care about the old ITV being out of date by 8 months.

It failed on a brake flexilbe hose needing replacing and that it had a tow bar fitted which was not on their documentation, even though the tow bar was on the car when I bought it, and last time I took it for the ITV there was no mention of it. As I've never used I decided the easy answer is to remove it completely, and hope that it will be OK. Should get the car back tomorrow and take it for a re-test.

Sign in the ITV station states that if the vehicle is returned for a re-test within 6 days then you will not have to pay the fee.

This isn't the norm though, the one we used charged for the re-test after only 2 days £20 euro

Maybe it boils down to what someone said earlier about them being private businesses; not as standardised as MOTs UK-style. I didn't have to pay for a re-test.

Just back from test centre, and good news is that it has passed, the re-test only took a couple of minutes, all the guy did was to check the brake efficiency on the machine, didn't even inspect under the car to see if the hose had actually been replaced, and seemed quite happy that I'd removed the tow ball.

The new ITV test is dated for 1 year from today i.e. not back dated to when the old one ran out. And no-one seems to care that I' ve been using the car for 8 months without a valid test. Suppose that if I'd been stopped by the police that they might have been interested.

So if any of you have a tow ball fitted to your car remember that it is classed as a modification and and your documents have to be updated.

I noticed while waiting that the fee for a petrol car is 25.04 euors, but for a diesel car it's 40.46 euros, as far as I could see the test are identical, so why the difference?
