If you make the move full time would consider getting out of Los Pacos.

I have done voluntary work in the past which has led to paid employment. It is a good way for people to make contacts, get free training and gain experience when trying to get employment in a new field. There may be no financial gain, but there should be benefits for all parties.

Good luck to you. So long as you are both okay with the really hot weather and missing close friends and relatives, I would go for it, definitely. However, are you SURE that you have picked the correct area? Maybe you ought to try out several areas by renting for a while?
I would not let on at all your financial status (not that you probably would anyway), just to make sure the friends you make are real friends.
