Sorry. I am generally more ironic than an ironic thing, but that one passed me by!

If you think the conflicts on this forum are amazing, you ought to check out this english language expat forum: toytown germany

It's perhaps the largest english-language expat site in Europe. Plenty of nice people, but when fights break out, no holds barred.

I have been buying eggs for decades and for decades have kept them in the fridge. Never lying around the kitchen, living room or anywhere else. This applies to UK as well as now in Spain.

Perhaps this is personal preference, but have had one bad egg - in a carton from Sainsbury's. Too much trouble to take it back, covered in olive oil, and at UK prices worth about 15p.

Salmonella has been around for centuries but was scientifically proven over 125 years ago - so isnt something new.

Eggs (in whatever country) can carry salmonella on the shells but be almost clear on the inside. There are many places that it can also be trasferred from laying to use.
It is the non washing of the eggs and the subsequent transfer by hand to mouth and to cooking implements that can cause problems. So good Environmental Health regimes, even (or especially) in the home kitchen as well as an industrial facility.

However, salmonella can be introduced with the feed, because of poor standards and farmers buying feed from 3rd world sources that don't meet the normal EU standards (even if they say on the packaging).

In the US they have about 30 deaths per annum from salmonella, most of which are people who have lack of immunity or other infirmities that stop the body from fighting it.
