hello,

I´m surprised nobody has mentioned the obvious choice of work for english people in Spain: become english teachers- you don´t always need to know Spanish( and I would have thought on the costas knowing only english is sufficient) you don´t even need a qualification( although having a TEFL certificate might make you more confident) as I´ve hardly ever been asked about this in 3 years. They just want native english people, so its something that anybody can have a go at.

You don't need to speak Spanish to teach English! This is what TEFL and TESOL are all about (I don't understand it myself!).

There are so many people offering English teaching on the coast that it's no longer an easy way to make money and if you want to work in a school the money is very poor.

I went to Spanish classes where the teachers didn't speak English. I personally found it a nightmare. Became a sort of Charades, ie is he walking, strolling, ambling. Went back to the tapes and book at least I then knew the above.

I agree with you, it must be both languages together.
It maybe easy for a kid learning dog or perro cos that is the only word they associate with the animal, but for us conversion comes into the equation.

If your not too picky there is loads of work in Madrid they can't get enough English teachers here, legal or otherwise. But as I said Madrid isn't the Costa Del Sol, but it's Spain. Main negative to teaching English here is the amount of time you spend on public transit getting around. Its best if you have a car, you can also take more hours as well.
