Given that his meat suppliers all come from within the county and he knows them personally, that's about as risk free as it gets nowadays. They used to have a sign outside the shop stating "Well hung Welsh Black", I see it's gone now, perhaps someone complained.
That's the way to go! Eat good quality meat but less often - better for your body, better for the planet and sticks two fingers up at supermarkets who try to persuade you their rubbish junk food is "good value".

I'll have a kilo of well-hung Welsh black, please - bet I can make it last all week!

Every cloud has a silver lining

A DERBYSHIRE business that imports horse burgers and steaks has reported a big jump in sales since the processed meat scandal broke.

Good for him! After all, horse meat isn't dangerous in itself, the problem is in not knowing what you're getting.

I've eaten camel, it's very nice. Not sure I'd fancy zebra, though meat with its own bar code sounds like a good idea.

Nestlé ravioli and other pasta products found to contain more than 1% horse DNA have been withdrawn from supermarkets in Spain and Italy. They are branded as Buitoni.

What I can't understand is why there should be any horse DNA in a beef product at all?

There seems to be a consensus that this figure should be below 1%.

Surely this should be ZERO or there is a problem with the processing and cross contamination.

Although contamination with horse meat is not a health problem I would think that for any cross contamination to take place is potentially dangerous.

DD you got there before me

I watched part of a documentary regarding contamination and it seems the main problem (apart from fraud) is in the filler. I was suprised to find that chicken breasts also contain filler to disguise the water pumped in Stock cubes are even being tested now!

After seeing this I'm not worried about horsemeat...

See this post on another thread and its attached document!

Well if one good thing comes out of all this, it will be that people become much more aware of the amount of adulteration that goes on. Producers are forever looking to cut costs and increase profits, and consumers are forever looking for cheaper more "convenient" meals.

It looks like shoppers are starting to vote with their feet, or rather with their purses. I heard on the radio that demand for supermarket burgers was down over 20% since the news broke!
