Home needed

I might be clutching at straws here, but maybe someone can help.
I need to find a new home for a dog I've been looking after for a few months. I go back to the UK in a few weeks and if I don't find him a home he'll have to be put down. I've tried the rescue homes, but they're at bursting point.
He's about 5 yrs old, medium size and has a fantastic temprament. House trained, but quite happy to be outside. He loves being on a lead and walks by your side.
I live about 30 mins from Torrevieja, near Crevillente.
Please let me know if you can help

Me too.

Is there not an animal charity near you that can take him in?

Good luck to you and the poor little mite.

Re: Home needed

OK. Can you vaccinate him ready to go back to Uk? Rabies etc?

sarahchirles Oct 10th 2007 12:04 pm

Re: Home needed

Its really important that he gets on with other dogs. Is he neutered? I have two of my own and its costing a fortune for them to get ready to back to UK.

I can't afford for the rabies blood test etc. for another one. BUT... i will not see a healthy and happy dog put down...!

sarahchirles Oct 10th 2007 12:17 pm

Re: Home needed

So what I am saying is.. If he is neutered and up to date with his injections for Rabies/blood tests etc... I would like to have him.

Believe me ! I cannot afford another dog without this done!

He needs to be ready to go back to UK...

Maybe we could start some fund going to help cover the costs.

How much would it cost? Ball park figure?

Try your local animal resscue charities, like PEPA, APAD, SAT, all local to you, and you can find details on line or in the local free papers.

Re: Home needed

I've tried the rescue homes and put him on the sites for adoption, but no luck.
My two were already into the 6 months wait for the rabies, and my husband said we couldn't start again with him (I'm beginning to see how self-centred he actually is, anyway that's another issue)
We've only had Bobby a couple of months, so he hasn't been nuetered or had his injections. He's great with my dogs, and loves people. If someone would take him I'd start his jabs off, but as I said we go back in 3 weeks. I though my husbands mother would take him as she said she loves him...but they're 'too tying'

Well what can I say......we went down to the bar last night and came back with a stray dog  At midnight he was in the bath being scrubbed and he slept soundly at the side of our bed all night!!

Now the thing with this dog is that he only understands English! He sits, gives his paw and lies down when told. He had a collar on with one of those name tags with the paper rolled up inside but the paper was missing. So this morning I am off to the vets with him to see if anyone has reported him missing or to see if he has been chipped. I am praying that he hasnt been dumped by English owners that have gone back to the UK!!!

Not being funny but why did you get him if you knew you were coming back so soon?

I might contribute too if I knew how much it'd cost.

I didn't 'get him', he was a stray, I presume dumped, beside our house. It was either take him in or let him be run over, or starve

Sorry Dawn. I didn't mean to imply that you're uncaring.

Can you please tell us how much you'd need to transport him back - plus jabs etc.

Maybe you should take him and leave your OH in Spain;)

dawn.s Oct 10th 2007 7:43 pm

Re: Home needed

It takes about 8 months from starting the jabs to when a dog can travel.
I think the jabs work out in total about 300 euros or more
As for the OH, I'd rather get him put down than Bobby at the moment

Sorry shouldn't laugh but.........

So, if you're going back in 3 weeks - how could you ever hope to take him back even if your OH was willing to pay the expenses?

Sounds like you just need a home rather than the money for jabs?

Have I missed something?

HAve you spoken to the marvellous poster here that is Xtreme? I think he runs some sort of sanctuary. Maybe posters would be willing to sponser Bobby through Xtreme?

Its just as bad in Portugal with the stray dogs DF. Your heart will break when you move there, I can see you ending up with about 20 dogs in your house lol.

You're probably right. I should maybe consider buying a farm not a house;) So much for "No more after these two".

He's a bit timid, but I don't know what he's like around small children, I don't have any. He's only just started to play a bit, I don't think he'd been given much attention till he came here. He's not aggressive in any way though

I didn't ask for money for jabs. I asked if anyone would be able to give him a home.

Thats our problem, we have a house with a small garden and not enough room for dogs to run about in. Now if we had a finca then I would imagine we would have 100?s of dogs

Just rang my friend who runs a sanctuary here for stray dogs and cats, no help unfortunately she is full to bursting point. Will keep trying for you. We will come up with something I am sure.

The dates for Rabies etc don't work out for me.

Thanks for trying. I've tried the rescue places for ages, and just hoped they'd have a space, but they're full.

Slightly off topic Dawn, but - why are you moving back to the UK?

Our son had no life here and we thought we owed it to him to go back so he could go to college. Though now my OH says he doesn't think he wants to live there, and he'll have to see how it goes when back.

Great news for the lost dog we brought home with us last night. I took him to the vets and I couldnt believe it but he is micro-chipped  So they phoned his owners who said he managed to open the door of the house and get out. So dog and owner are now reunited

Dawn, have you taken the dog you are feeding to the vets to see if he is micro-chipped?

He's not chipped. I took him to the vets to make sure he was healthy and they checked then

Brilliant news.

Fingers crossed for Bobby now.

Re: Home needed

I am very tempted to take him, but I have quite a lively 5 year old and I am a bit worried that they won't get on! He is also quite nervous around dogs, although this is a reason that I wouldn't mind having one as I don't want him to grow up with a phobia. I also have never had a dog but my husband has. I am in a dilemma as I want to help (and I'm only down the road in Aspe) but nervous i'll make the wrong decision!
There are quite a few other dogs around us who get quite noisy when bikes etc go past, do you think that would worry Bobby? Does he sleep in the house or outside? Probably all silly questions but as I said i've never had a dog so this is quite a big decision!

dawn.s Oct 11th 2007 3:16 am

Re: Home needed

He does sleep outside, but I let them in for a couple of hours a day as they like to have company, and follow me around anyway. As I said, he's a bit timid at first, but he's come out of his shell a lot in the few months I've had him. I don't know what he'd be like with small children, although I don't think for one minute he'd be a danger. He just loves attention and he'd sit all day and be petted.
The noise wouldn't bother him as we live on a road that has noisy bikes regularly too. He would bark if they stopped outside the house though.
I know it's a big decision, if you need to know anything else let me know, no question is silly

aspeangel Oct 11th 2007 3:48 am

Re: Home needed

can we arrange to come and see him? maybe on Saturday? PM me, so we can arrange.
Also, is he ok to be left on his own as we work and are sometimes out for most of the day, normally out from 9am-3pm? would he be alright in the garden for that time?
