I can assure you kind people that both of our NIE numbers are 10 characters long X-8 numbers-F. I accept what you say about having 7 numbers, so maybe when we registered with telefonica over the phone, she shortened the number to make it fit the system. If that is the case I suppose we will have to wait for a bill to see what they have used. The English speaking guy told me to check my bill, and when I said I had only been with telefonica for a few days, he was lost. Thats when he told me to find a Spanish speaker to make the call.

I was paying 31 or 32 euros telefonica line rental alone. Its not for everyone but worth a try and worth costing see if its for you. Good luck anyway

If it tells you it must be 9 digits long, and you've already tried without the X and also without the F, then I don't know what to suggest, other than doing as Telefonica recommended and getting a spanish speaker to call for you.

They don't cover Valencia for a start!
