Default Help with Telefonica

Help required please. Last week when I registered with Telefonica, they asked me for passport or NIE number. I gave them NIE. (mistake - should have kept it simple with passport)
Today I received letter from them telling me how to access my account on line. First I have to get my username by clicking the 'olvido su usario y/o contrasena' button on the website. This then takes me to a box for my telephone number - no problem, and a box for NIF/CIF/Passport/Tarjeta Residente/Otros. My problem is, what do I put here ??? If I select NIF and enter my NIE it says 'NIF is 9 digits long' !!!!! The NIE is X-8figs-F !!! It won't accept passport number because that's not what I registered with so does anyone know how I move forward from here please.

Have you tried not putting in the X at the beginning, or leaving off the F at the end. I think my NIE begins with X too so I wonder if they all do so is ignored on things.

No idea really just rambling.

Tried that Rosemary, thanks. Also tried leaving off both letters and adding '0' to the left. No luck.

My (and other halfs) NIE is X-7digits-L are you 100% certain that there's 8 digits in the middle?

El Capitan is an unknown quantity at this point

Common problem.
All NIE numbers begin with X.
I also have a NIF which confuses the hell out of all systems as that is not normal format either and is a completely different number to my NIE. I suggest you have to phone Telefonica and get through to an english speaking operator and explain your problem.

Try your NIE number in the Tarjeta de Residencia or Otros boxes?

Probably a daft question ..... why do you have to access your account online?

I never had to do that and we gave them our NIE number when we booked it all. In fact I've never been on line on the site with TF

If you want to use Telefonica Online you must enter your NIE number in the Tarjeta de Residencia box.

Mitzyboy, I use them as I get my bills online. Should you ever need to order something from them (like ADSL) you do it online and get better deals.

You can also report faults and follow the progress online.

As Fred says, I used the Tarjeta de Residencia box. Once that was done, I altered the username and password to something sensible that I could remember.

Let's all go paperless PLEASE;-)

OK guys, thanks. I use the Tarjeta box for the NIE, but do I use ALL of the NIE ? ie X followed by 8 digits followed by F. Won't accept the full number.

As said before it should only have 7 numbers in it.

Default Re: Help with Telefonica

Sometimes when mine fails I add a 0 at the start to make the number bit 8 digits long.

Different systems seem to verify in different ways though - sometimes that's not necessary.
