I don't think you will find a way past their system even with a really good VPN.

The ECJ decision effectively makes streaming within the EU illegal. Hiding behind a VPN isn't going to help if there aren't any streams to watch!

just to clear a point we have tvcatchup on our system outside the uk .the ECJ ruling did state that the watchi it in or out of the uk was a point they rejected
that ´´a for profit company´ gained ´a beneift´´ from having the channels on their service - paid for or free . it only makeS (and i dont use the word lightly because the act broken is a criminal law) STOLEN STREAMS .watching ITV.com streams is still allowed ..

I did try it and it didn't work for me. If it doesn't work "out of the box" I can't see the point.

Filmon is totally reliable and better quality.

I just tried filmon with 'inprivate browsing' in Internet Explorer which is a more secure way to surf.

No picture. Makes you wonder what else is going on 'behind the scenes' when you watch. Of course its 'free' so there has to be something to justify their set up costs. Same with all the 'free' vpn sites etc.

In Firefox I set it up to delete all cookies etc when exiting so it works there. But I do wonder about all these cookies, phising etc etc

As I mentioned/anticipated before - the loss of satellite signal may mean that filmon also charges for SD services (as they do for HD).... the charging system is already in place. Sorry but, frankly, it would make business sense for them to make money out of this sat shutoff (if legal - but that's another long debate - started elsewhere - let's not start it here!!)

I've heard that they will charge 150-200 euros (or something in that order) for full screen viewing. So be prepared for LOTS of changes when/if the sats go down and you want to watch UKTV abroad. Others may well follow.

I tend to agree with your concerns about the possible costing model.
It's another reason to give the Slingbox option serious consideration for people that can install the box back in the UK.

no one should pay more then €100 a year for access to the LEGAL BBC/ITV sites
in spain .paying a third party for tv is like paying your tv licence to a man who is watching on a stolen tv ...
