Global warming??

I don't think anyone is suggesting that climate change is the only cause of freak weather.
It might be one but if it is it's only one of many. As jojo points out it is a chaotic system. It certainly doesn't mean that ACC isn't a factor...
(note I have coined a new acronym for the purpose of this debate - ACC = Anthropogenic Climate Change - people seem to get confused by AGW)

Just out of interest and as a point of how the "experts" arent always right. I was lookig back thru this thread and waaaayyy back at the end of May last year, someone posted this - a prediction by experts that the summer 0f 2013 was going to be a non event and the worst for 200 years - well doesnt it show us how NOT to listen to the "experts". Cos it was a really lovely summer, albeit a little late in starting lol

Predicting the weather is difficult and a good example of science 'doing its best' in a complex and chaotic system. They obviously often get it wrong and when they do people are quick to condemn, ignoring the fact that they are far more often right than wrong (inasmuch as it is possible to measure accuracy of forecasts) and provide an invaluable service.

No condemnation from me, just highlighting the perils of predictions - it suggests to me that they perhaps should keep quiet and not court potential mockery and the "crying wolf" reputation, which doesnt help their cause ! But I guess their PR department needs to justify its existence

They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Incidentally I don't think they have a cause aside from trying to warn, under very difficult circumstances, of what could potentially happen.

Anyway, where were we? Oh year, we were accusing scientists and professionals of knowing less than this lot on an Internet forum.....

A word over used, and too willingly given. Just look at enviroment agencies, Financial-Institutions, political debating groups, military and policing heads 'Question Time' ,
BBC, SKYNEWS, and very lazy journalists, and cricket experts who told us England
would retain the Ashes. Unreliant statistics wouldnt exist without those famous
'OUR EXPERTS'...
Ps....In my work when going into a meeting, I believed it insults intelligence, and is rather condescending When one is introduced as one of our experts, we who will meet and discuss with your experts.
Nice to hear when one is young, but an overused word, and because of the over use,
Not overrated but underrated subject knowledge, kidnapped for oneupmanship, and
Political gain or blame.......
Oohhhh shit I'm ranting again......what do I know, I'm no expert.

I would say insulting was much more accurate, though unfortunately expats and checkout girls don't seem to come under the same protective umbrella of the PC brigade as some other groups

Is NASA a good enough source for all you respected scientists?

(Bet it isn't, I mean any group that can put a man on the moon can't possibly know anything about science)
