The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo says Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel GarcÃa Margallo does not actually want dialogue and is doing everything he can to ensure a reasonable framework for dialogue is not arrived at.
In a wide-ranging interview with Spanish newspaper El Plural, Mr Picardo said a lot of lies have been told about Gibraltar in Spain, but he expresses the hope that the truth about the Rock and its circumstances will slowly shine through.
Mr Picardo says he has a lot of confidence in Spanish people, and that solutions will come about as a result of “dialogue, dialogue, dialogueâ€.

at least I can say i have been a regular visitor since my first visit in 1966

and when I think of the amount of beer and spirits as well as "rabbits" bought on the Rock I wonder if I should be a shareholder

I doubt EMR has ever been to Spain let alone Gibraltar. If he had been to Gibraltar he would see that it is like everywhere else with rich and not so rich. They are there because there are...jobs and a decent climate.

I first arrived in 76 running away from the Taxman with a whole £30 in my pocket. I doubt I would have survived if he had caught me and demanded his share
However I got a job at £20 per week and the Gib taxman found me.

He doesn't seem to know anything about the ordinary Gibraltarians - very many of whom seem far from rich to me, the thousands of Spanish daily commuters many of whom do very ordinary jobs on a minimal wage, the many hundreds of expat workers (I know dozens of them) who work for very ordinary wages and (shock horror) pay income tax
. It even has corporation tax unlike the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and many other places. He quite obviously knows little about the place, the people or the issues at all - banging on about how the British man in the street isn't interested - as if that is in some way significant.

La Linea marina in Gibraltar waters, according to UN chart
An up-to-date chart approved by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) indicates that a significant part of La Linea’s Alcaidesa Marina has been built on land that has been reclaimed in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.
The official chart approved by the IMO – a United Nations agency – is now also showing the location of the artificial reef laid in late July last year.

I don't understand the vitriol that is levied by some at anyone attempting to live and work in a low taxation environment. Folk don't go to work and live in places like Saudi Arabia because they think that it's the best place in the world to live.

Cameron discussed Gibraltar border delays with Barroso in December
He added that the UK is in frequent contact with the European Commission about delays at the border, including on the need for the Spanish authorities to implement the recommendations made by the European Commission, following the visit of its delegation in September.

As for you point about Saudi and other places of the same ilk "ie higher tax free wages" than the UK, they don´t seem to get the same flack.
So moving from Spain back to the UK seems to bring out the worst in many posters on here, it seems more sensible to me, than someone risking their life (Ken Bigley springs to mind,) to keep more of their own money in their pocket and going to work in some dangerous hellhole.

That is what usually happens here, if anyone mentions that they don´t like the 720 and all it implies, then they get called tax dodgers, usually by the posters who actually admit that they don´t have UK assets.

Are you beginning to see that , by stating we should only take the views of a real Gibralterian seriously, your post is nonesense.
Following your
logic. How can anyone give an opinion about how the Spanish feel, if they are not one?
So how could anyone write about how the immigrants only have a positive effect on the UK, when we have no resident mum whose child is being held back in school?
How can someone be posting and pontificating all about Spain when he lives in Portugal?

How can anyone write about paedos and such (as you often do) unless one is one?
I look at it another way, the posts by our very own Fred are valid, he lives in Gibralter, he knows the score.
I think you might want to edit your post.
