I do not know how many times I have said that the dispute between Spain and Gib is no better than that of two neighbours argueing over a shared drive way.
Each goes out of it way to piss the other one off.
Gib however when it has a chance to take the moral high ground acts just a badly as the Spanish.
Spain does not have a veto to stop Gibs participation it needs a majority of members to vote for or against Gib.
The question you should ask is why do so many other nations support Spain ??

If they did not why was Spain able to block Gibraltars membership of EUEFA ? etc etc.
Why does the EU not issue any sanctions against Spain that would actually make them change the way it acts. etc etc

In the absence of "links", I'll provide a few:

By the way, the EU has a continuing battle with Spain over it's behaviour in a lot of different things. But that still doesn't make Gibraltar the source of all the world's evils.

BIG NEWS - After a long 14-year battle, Gibraltar finally admitted as a full member of UEFA, Europe's football governing body

Friday, 24 May 2013
After a long 14-year battle prolongued due to Spanish claims over sovereignty of the Rock, the Gibraltar Football Association has been admitted as a full member of European Football's governing body, UEFA. The UEFA President Michel Platini made the announcement following the vote by hand of delegates during the XXXVII Ordinary UEFA Congress in London.

The positive vote by delegates was overwhelming so there was no need for a formal count. Of course Spain, long term objectors, voted to reject the application, although they declined to make the vote an electronic one thus enabling a vote by hand.

Thanks amideislas, I have expanded one of your links because not only is IT not capable of providing links I have come to the conclusion that IT is incapable of following them

Ok, we have covered fish and football. Most informative Amideislas. If we are moving on in alphabetical order can we have a go at Gib about the fur trade next please? No doubt that is all their fault as well.

Well not in alphabetical order but Gib is also the foundation of all Spanish unemployment and corruption

There is no necessity for me to post links for the above because all of Spains supporters ( the whole world ) are aware of this situation

It should come as no suprise to anyone with atitudes such as Freds and that of his counterparts across the border that a change in the relationship between Spain and Gib is about as likely as England ever winning the world cup again.

Erm, Gibraltar has always been the defendant in this matter.

It occurs to me that perhaps the offending party holds the burden of olive branch?

Of course, that would require a will to come to terms. So, naturally, Gibraltar will continue to be the source of all Spain's problems as long as Spain can't come to grips with itself.

Did somebody mention Catalonia?

Gibraltar is hardly the " defendant " this all started with the " offensive action of the UK which by military means seized Gib from Spain ".
So in Spanish minds Gibraltar will always be the offender .

It was more like a rugby score. Spain 20 - Catalunya 80

So come on Fred, how did those subversives in Gibraltar influence such a landslide?

pete - as I understand it, the subversives used the money they make from blue fin tuna fishing and clubbing baby seals for their fur to buy votes for Catalan independence.

If there were baby fur seals in Gib you can be assured that if the Spanish said that clubbing and de skinning in Gib was illegal someone in Gib would start doing it.
Just because the Spanish said don't.

Oh, you mean during the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_Spanish_Succession to preserve the brutal Spanish empire?

Gee, I'm left wondering how anyone ever concluded that Spain was ever offensive in any way. Just minding their own business, when others came along, seizing land from them...
