It is notoriously hard to keep alive and is very prone to disease, so they are pumped full of drugs, not least antibiotics, for their entire lives.
The few organic ones that are out there are so expensive because the mortality rate is about 60%.
I have been told that salmonella wasn't present in UK poultry until turkeys were introduced commercially.

Last time I came back from Stansted with 5 kg of fresh rhubarb, and did not get stopped, mr.jdr really enjoyed it....ha ha

Only stuff I've brought back is Quality Street and starbucks coffee in my handluggage, went through fine

someone I know bought a tonne of sausages, bacon and frozen curries back

whenever i am in uk i always bring back a joint of boiled bacon, some sausages and curry sauces, yep i know its mad but i like boiled bacon

well now it looks as though foot and mouth has reared its ugly head again the controls will be very tight about meat products going out of england!
