Judging by the players opinions I heard expressed they all seem proud to do so and who cares about Capello anyway,though I would expect he'll fully understand.
In any event the Ities ended up on our side and understandably most appear to be more comfortable with that, than with their previous allegiance.

It's a difficult topic, unless you walk around with your eyes closed. We were not the only participants in that horrible war a hundred years ago. Yet I believe we're the only ones remembering it to the extent that we do.

Why? Having posed the question, I'm stuck for an answer. Is it an island mentality? Is it because we're the only ones with a Monarchy? Prince William duly joined in requesting our team should be allowed to wear poppies.

Yet our Royal family has more German blood in their veins than Hitler had - he didn't have any.

I give up on the topic. Poppies or not, I hope we win on Saturday. It will be nothing short of a miracle.

I haven't even a clue who we're playing, qualifier or friendly but at least I'll know that we are the ones wearing red poppies on our arms, so maybe that should help.

There's an article here, and as yet there are only four comments, but three of those are very positive. One saying he he feels admiration and a certain jealousy of British traditions, another that it's a shame Spain doesn't have a similar tradition.

I can't see that its a bad thing for any country to remember their fallen, as long as it's done in a respectful way.
In addition to showing respect and gratitude, surely it's also a sombre warning to everyone of just what can happen in terrible wartime situations.
