Maybe its to make sure they are as full as they can be. 100 people to each destination equals 200 if its only one ferry. More chance of them breaking even. Im sure the alternative of no services at all would be something none of us want.

The budget airlines are doing the same. Someone in a local Facebook group to us got on a plane in Manchester, it then went to Leeds to pick up more people. It then flew to Alicante full.

They all have difficult decisions to make, do you run fewer services to ensure each is full, or do you bounce around to pick up others?

I flew Heathrow to LA once and we stopped in New York as the plane was almost empty (the old days of Delta) was not supposed to happen but they only announced it once we were in the air. They cancelled the NY to LA plane because there were only 30 passengers.
I know its a bugger but I would still do the ferry over driving through France any day (Im the only driver so time wise not much different)

We've just been on the Plymouth to Bilbao ferry, this time of year it's quite expensive but, having said that, if there's 4 of you and your going away for a few weeks it not a bad deal, dover calais is around £70 and takes 90 mins but, at the moment you have constantly changing covid rules so UK Spain seems like a better bet even though it can seem expensive
