It is the Manchester United / Chelsea / Steve Davies / Stephen Hendry / anybritsuccessful syndrome aint it. Whenever someone does well, for some reason in the UK we don't seem to like it.:D

I dont Despise English Success, no way, Im very Patriotic, but just not in the case of Hamilton at this moment.

I believe as you are correct above about the way people are I feel maybe if Hammy wins the World Driving Championship, there will be many who are unhappy in both countries. Hamilton could end up being the biggest loser of them all, not being appreciated and unable to celebrate his victory in his own country.

I don't buy into that at all. I don't support something I would never normally support just because I'm British. I wouldn't suddenly start supporting the England rugby team or Arsenal football club or Tim Fr**gin' Henman just because they're Brits. I wouldn't do it if I lived in UK so why start now????? I support Alonso because I've followed him when he started out, I found him an exciting driver in a bunch of alsorans, and at the time he was about the only driver in the Schumacher mould. I couldn't care less that Hamilton is a Brit - I'm not going to dump Alonso now.

Talking of which - I see the Brit got yet another helping hand.......

That wasn't the point I was making though. In general as far back as I can remember when you get a successful Brit sportsperson or team there is a tendancy for some reason for them to be disliked. You support Alsonso for a good reason, but people hate Manchester United for instance with a vengence, often because they have been so successful over the years. I remember some of the reactions against Steve Davis when he was at the top of the tree.

In the European competitions I support all the Brit football teams taking part, unless it involves a match with my team. I have friends however that pray my team loses and that certain players sustain injury in the process.

Its generally, but not totally, the same in all sports as I detailed.

Anyways, back to the thread, what the hell happened overnight!! :eek: I thought I was imagining things this morning when I turned the TV on!!!

Interesting point on the radio this morning. Amidst all the "Alonso is the Devil incarnate for hurting our little Lewis" talk on the radio. the Five Live correspondent (English!) broke ranks and dared to suggest that maybe Ickle Lewis wasn't entirely blameless. Such temerity will mean that this poor correspondent will be demoted next week, but he said that Hamilton refused to follow the team strategy and was repeatedly asked to ease off (or was it come in??? Can't remember exactly) but he didn't do it. This led to confusion in the pits

It must have been come in ...... If he had eased off then presumably agaon he wouldn't have time to complete another lap.

Whichever, lets agree that its adding a little spice to F1 ...... Its even got me interested again. I used to watch it all the time but I found it got boring some years ago. Bit like the snooker, I can't be arsed with that since we lost the real characters
