Is it ever going to stop raining?!?!?

Nearly two weeks now. Half the country is flooded. All you people hoping to move to "sunny Spain" - think again!

We did quite well here today - it only started raining a few minutes ago and has been dry and sunny until then! The countryside round about doesn't look like your picture, probably because there aren't enough flat bits!

It is all getting a bit much though, I don't mind if it rains every night if only the days were dry. The weather forecast at the moment shows sunny for Sunday and Monday for Malaga, hope they are right. I am going to be in Sevilla for a few days next week and was not looking forward to it much if the weather stays wet, not much fun tramping about in the rain.

We haven't had heavy rain here on the Costa Blanca in the last couple of weeks - certainly no flooding.

No rain up here either - I've been out playing tennis

Cold though, 5 degrees

Re: Is it ever going to stop raining?!?!?

raining for almost 3 weeks now, have had a day respite today, temp up to 20 on the verandah, but outside its only about 12
driving into the big city last week the main road was awash to about 6 inches as it came out of the olive groves

understand Loja had snow yesterday on the A92 which bypasses the town at high level and a couple of lorries fell over with their legs in the air.

Forecast...............
Rain
:(
but its supposed to be good for the olives

Been quite pleasant here as well - 20's and a few drops of rain here and there, but pleasant. Right now it's about 18 and perfectly still. Been sitting out on the terrace reading a bit...

Yes, I am fed up of it too.

Campo houses just aren't designed for wet weather living!

Some folk are just never satisfied.

According to Dom this should be good for your olives.

It's been raining here for the best part of a month!
The land is completely waterlogged and down by the river...which is running high, it's now following the course it carved out during the flood at the end of September.

I'm just hoping the weather is not going to follow the same pattern as in the winters of 2009 and 2010.

We were given 2 puppies the week before this rain started it's been a nightmare trying to train them and am sick of clearing puppy poo off the covered terrace.
On Monday, the Rio Grande was close to flooding and running very fast at the bottom of the track. After last nights torrential rain I imagine it may now be impassable which will be annoying as the vet is due out this afternoon to vaccinate cats and pups.

On the plus side its rather like a summer in UK.

Re: Is it ever going to stop raining?!?!?

yesterday evening after dinner it just came down vertically like the monsoons, lightening, thunder.
hasnt stoppped all night, thunder and lightening at about 5am with some more at 7.45
can't see the 1900m asl mountain above us, the cloud is like high fog in the streets

but there doesnt appear to be a speck of dust on the car parked outside on the road

oh well I still have the sangria left of the three

There you are you see, every cloud has a silver lining.
No need to wash your car and just think what it must be doing for your olives.

Not been quite so bad here with just the odd shower from time to time, not really heavy and most of the time it's ok to be out and about.

Even caught a glimpse of the Sun yesterday and again this morning. :)

I reckon we've already had as much rain as the whole of last winter.

Look on the bright side, it could be worse, it could be snow.

Just think about all those poor sods living inland on the high ground, probably much of the population, who get it much of the Winter.

That's much what a Spanish friend was telling me in an e-mail yesterday. And then he asks when when are we coming out!;)

Creo hemos recogido en ******* desde el inicio del curso pluvial 2012 ( se cuenta desde mitad setiembre ), aprox. 350,00 litros x M2. Es una cifra excelente, más que el total del 2011/2012)

It must be moving up from here then, after today there is only sun on the 5 day forecast - thank goodness! We have had thunder and lightning all night as well, with torrential rain.

I know we've had as much or more rain so far this winter as we did in the whole of the last one, because I've already used my tumble dryer more this year!

I would kill for a tumble dryer ... All my clothes are covered in mud from trying to retrieve vegetables from the huerto (which now resembles a paddy field), and I've got nowhere to dry them!

I didn't have one for the first 3 years we lived here, and used to think people were daft who did, unless they lived in an apartment and didn't have anywhere to dry their washing. Then the winter of 2009/10 arrived - and I had to go out and buy a tumble dryer on 26 December. It got plenty of use that year and the following winter, but wasn't used once last winter as far as I recall. I still don't like washing dried that way, but sometimes you just have no choice!

I wouldn't resort to one in England, so I'm certainly not going to buy a one here, come hell or high water.

Here's a clue or two.

It goes around and around without getting anywhere, wastes loads of energy, runs up a massive electric bill, makes a hell of a lot of noise and blows a load of hot air.

Now whatever could that be ? ;)

Re: Is it ever going to stop raining?!?!?

the BH had a dr's appt this morning so drove here into work in the big city,
well tried to, the A-335 through the olive groves was totally flooded.
It was bad a couple of weeks ago but today the cascades coming off the olive slopes has taken off the top soil and all the stones (well some are small boulders) and most traffic had to turn round and find alternative routes.

Also had a gang out shoring up a couple of places where the road cuts through the mountain side and the soil and rocks have been falling down on to the road.

Add to that a power cut at lunch time, only a few minutes but the computer was knocked out again. Good job I bought a UPS today, except it takes 12hrs to charge before use.

Sun, Sea & Sangria
well no sun,
80km from the sea,
but still got plenty of Sangria and got a top-up from Alcampo whilst out there.

Re: Is it ever going to stop raining?!?!?

Well the rain and the thunder kept me awake most of the night!
Got up to find the leak in our flat roof has gone worse since the BH made an attempt at mending it again the other day during one of the rare fine spells, it's not content now just to run through the electricity box  and into the container, it's now spreading along and trying to make an indoor swimming pool in our dining room.
If it would only stop raining for a few days we could fix it!

After breakfast we set off for our monthly shopping trip down on the coast, that was when we discovered that it's now raining into the car.
On top of that I think a cat must have sneaked in there yesterday while the tailgate was open......it stinks to high heaven, so much so you wouldn't believe, we traveled with the windows open all the way. :frown:

The Guadalhorce river was in flood and also the Rio Grande, it wasn't raining as hard as we approached the coast but there it was the low cloud and the sea fog that was a problem.

Next time I wish for rain as I did a few short weeks ago....will somebody please remind me just how bl**dy awful it is here when it does rain?
