Guilty as charged, but in my defence I'll say that it was 40c at the time. :)

Yes, this is a country of extremes!

I think we have a couple of days respite here before the next lot rolls in ... enough to do the laundry anyway.

Happiness is getting into a bed with clean sheets dried in the fresh air - even if they do smell ever so slightly of woodsmoke!

It goes around and around without getting anywhere, wastes loads of energy, runs up a massive electric bill, makes a hell of a lot of noise and blows a load of hot air.

Now whatever could that be ? ;)

So just how do you dry your washing in wet weather ?, you know when the air itself is damp & full of moisture. ;)

I noticed you only joined this year. It's not been so unusual to have seemingly endless rain here. The year I moved here, just 3 years ago, we moved on the 16th December. On the 18th our goods and chattels were due to turn up. It decided to start raining. We had nowhere to put our stuff except in our unfinished house. I'd managed to get the builders to wall off one section and fill in the windows in the part filled way they do here in Spain. It rained solidly until march, took a couple of weeks off and then started again for another month!
Everything we owned was damp. Much of it totally ruined. Our part built house was a running river. We stayed in a rental but that was cold, damp and miserable and we were running out of money. This, as they say on all the 'No going back' type progs, was not the way it was supposed to be!
But last year was a very dry winter. You just never know!
I still love rain and thunderstorms just as I did when I was a child. but I'll never disrespect the power of water!

Good question.

Back in the UK when the weather is bad I have a few spare rooms with C/H rads and lots of hanging space. Even in winter I open a couple af windows just the tiniest bit to keep the air circulating and prevent condensation.

Here in Spain I have various sizable undercover areas outside the house where they can hang a long while if needs must, without being in the way.

I watch the weather carefully and even during bad spells, it's very rare there isn't the occasional window of opportunity, so given half a chance like today for instance, I make the very best use of it.

A bit like when I was farming, constantly watching the skies and forecasts in order to "make hay while the sun shines", and that was even more difficult.

When the worst comes to the worst, I keep bringing a few things inside at a time and spread them all around the warm house till they properly air off.

I've seen a few bad spells down here, but with a little help from my lady friend and a little ingenuity I've never been stuck or had a log jam waiting to get stuff dried.

All a question of timing and common sense really, though the fact that there is rarely more than two in the house or occasionally just myself, means that the washing load is never very big.

However as PL says, letting them have a good blow ouside is always by far the best when possible.

Your post combined with the latest weather forecast has really cheered me up no end......I don't think.

Time for shot of brandy methinks, before the damp gets right into my creaky old bones.

Hopeless and continuous rain. We have two horses, that like to stand in the rain rather than under shelter. Even they have had enough.

So you had the C/H on & the windows cracked open

Yes hanging in the damp air for hours on end

Common sense would be to invest in a tumble dryer & in an hour your damp washing would be properly dry, still as you have never owned one it may be to big a culture change ?

However as PL says, letting them have a good blow ouside is always by far the best when possible.

Goes without saying & the choice of most.

There was actually a S/H tumble drier standing unused in a corner for 5 years which my son was given.
Gave it away a few months ago, never used it once, no need for it, despite the bad Summer.

I can assure you I would never dream of putting washing away without ensuring it was properly dried, aired and fresh, nothing I hate more than damp or foisty washing, not good for the health either.

Has it never crossed your mind that folk have been successfully drying and airing washing in all sorts of conditions for hundreds or maybe thousands of years before electric dryers were invented ?

It's not rocket science I can assure you.

Looks like it's our turn now up near the East Coast.
I was just thinking maybe we'd got off lightly compared to many places, but it seems there's lots more to come here for quite a while yet.
Pleased I live on top of a little hill.
I can wait a little while longer before building the Ark.

Been much the same here, wind at storm force, rain lashing down and for a while this afternoon hailstones.....it looked a lot like snow across the valley on El Torcal.
I'm still waiting for a dry slot to get my washing done. :(

Woke up this morning wondering what damage the rain has done - it hasn't stopped for 48 hours now.

Underbuild (two apartments) under water, pool overflowing, chickens trying to swim and dogs - well!!!!!

right now looking out of the patio doors of the study in an easterly direction and can see all the black clouds coming in, but as the view is quite restricted don't get any warning until it actually dumps on us.

stopped raining during the night, cold wind and seems to by drying out a little, but those clouds are putting the housekeeper off from doing the washing

had a power cut for 2 hours yesterday afternoon, wonder if I can bill Endesa for the UPS I have had to buy to keep the computers alive.

It's been better over our way this weekend - lovely day on Saturday, a couple of brief showers yesterday and windy, but good for drying the washing! Lovely so far this morning as well.

I don't mind looking at it from a distance - very pretty. Nearer the coast we have 23 degrees, sunny and no wind at all today.

here we currently have 14c in the sun in sheltered positions, but real chill factor if the wind catches you as you move round a corner.
blue sky now mostly visible with the few off white fluffy things moving around

got some of the washing done, but not the normal Monday batch - according to the housekeeper

I did the same, but I only got the one load dry this afternoon instead of the normal two.
It was lovely and warm here in the sun, one of those days when you go outside to warm up. ;)

it was 7c here this morning at 0800, risen slightly since the sun came over the mountains :)

everyone is running around stuffing things in the washing machine thingy, the thing I find is that if the old Spanish lady across the way is putting out her washing then we have to run around because she has got an hour's start on us :sneaky:

amazing how a little sun can make so much difference to how I feel, less depression

Yes it had crossed my mind hence I only wash my clothes in cold water using a scrubbing board and carbolic soap, no sir you will not find me using a machine as they (how did you put it ?) are extremly wasteful of electricity and cost a fourtune to run.

Yes I know many do use them so they can complete the wash in a hour instead of all day, but............

BTW what have rockets got to do with it ? ;)

I wash our clothes by bashing them on rocks by the river it - saves water coming through the meter. I'd do the same with the kids if I had any.

You telling me you can't even afford a poss tub and a mangle ?
I didn't know things were quite that bad in Andalucia.

Though come to think of it I saw folk down there still using those public wash-houses with big troughs and lots of fresh unmetered cold water running straight through them the last time I was down there.

I'm sure there must still be one close at hand if you ask around Jimenato. :D

Well I haven't yet resorted to the methods previously decribed, so I do have a bit of sympathy for poor Jimenato. ;)

However it bothers me not to wait a day rather than an hour if necessary for washing to dry as I am fortunate enough to have at least one change of everything if required and if manana is good enough for the Spanish, then it's certainly good enough for me.

If the power used to heat the home can also be utilised to finish airing the washing whenever necessary, then that suits me just fine.

Meanwhile those who don't care a toss about their ever increasing electric bills or haven't a single moment to spare and nothing to occupy their minds and bodies whilst washing is drying naturally, are quite welcome to sit by their tumble dryers desperately waiting for each cycle to complete.

Fantastic news
Carole and me are in Australia until the end of Feb. but when we come back perhaps we can have a 'noggin' in the D'Paso or Cuatro Vientos bars.
I might even have a 'gig' with the Red Tops '50s Rock band down that way.
Any guys anywhere near La Zenia, It's really worth going to see them. They play regularly around that area. Check them out on Facebook or YouTube.

Yesterday saw a slow down of the rain, which had started in the night, until we entered the evening with a cloudless sky.

Today it is brillian sunshine, just a couple of white whispy bits in the sky

its so good the housekeeper has gone back to putting the washing on the schedule and going for an outdoor drying session
